• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Morning everyone. So does everyone in here attend Church in their local area? If not, I highly suggest you tune into archived services for either Cedar Creek Church, Elevation Church or Saddle Back (Rick Warren). Rick Warren really touches on the brokenness of this world, how we can trudge through it, purpose, overcoming fears and doubts, etc.... Really "uplifting" stuff. This isn't going to be perfect by any means, but it's a start. Have a great day everyone!

Lets start with the book of James this week. James 1. Read it and think about how it pertains to you and your life, it's meaning, etc and then come back and write a small paragraph about it. Follow up with your own prayer. 3, ... 2, .... 1. GO.

I learned that I need to stop cussing so much, it doesn't make me a good example. It also reminded me of what someone once said. They said when my struggle is over I will have indestructible faith. He was talking about after I read apologetics etc. Before I didn't need apologetics and I didnt think science may be right. I was just a believer. Apologetics make me doubt more.

Okay it basically said to be happy that I'm being tested, "I'm not sure why I should be happy." my current test is obviously my OCD doubt. God bestows wisdom upon you if you ask so I need to ask and trust God to get me through this. God doesn't tempt people. Each person is tempted in their own way. You're to be blessed for preserving in your trial. So this means for me to just continue and try my best to depend on God and pray and know he'll get me through it. Be careful with what you say. I guess the only way this could apply to me is my cussing. Be slow to anger. I'm working on that I'm much more forgiving and less hot-tempered than I used to be. Don't just here the word do it too. I'm trying my best on that by trying to sin less and less which I do fail at some but also I try to help other people with their OCD because I love helping people I know how they feel and I want to help make their lives better.
Prayer-
Dear God I pray that you help all of us today bless us and keep us lead us to you. Help all the people of the world find you God. Help all those who are searching for you find you. God help the sick and depressed. Help feed the hungry. I pray that you keep the evil foe away from us all as we go through our trials and temptations. In Jesus name I pray
Amen

Well, this may or may not be easy for some of you, but we are all pointing towards one end point, stronger than anything in the universe, sharper than any two edge sword and whether you feel it or not yet, Jesus loves you deeper than the darkest fathoms of any ocean. We all have purpose and we'll all be guided by Him and through Him we will all get there, with each other and through Christ we will conquer this. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow or next week, but we'll ALL be here, when each other falls, ready to pick each other up. Lets do this and be strong. Chins up!! It's time for us to shine.

How do u know your doubt is from ocd worried one?

It doesn't matter if it's doubt from worry, OCD, too much stress or because you've just got an anxious soul. We're here now to become stronger in our faith in Christ, build our trust and become the awesome people He wants us to be. We all worry. We all have doubt. Now we are moving forward towards a new light. A light of hope that someday soon we will get better.

Problem: OCD/intrusive blasphemous thoughts. I have learned to deal with them now, been living with OCD for almost 10 years now. Fear of sinning a lot. One serious obsesssion is fear that if im not sure if something is a sin and I still do it that I'm commiting the unpardonable sin.

I can see why you chose James 1 for reading this week, its beautiful.

First things first, I checked out the authorship of James, and the reliability of the text (Im a historian by trade :s ) General thought being that James was the half brother of Christ Himself. James died in 63AD so his writing is incredibly early by ancient history standards, and had little time to develop "legend syndrome" and corrupt the truth (it took 800 years for anyone to write something down about Alexander the Great!)

As for the subject matter itself, its a moving plea from James to remain steadfast in the face of adversity. The prose is elegant and precise, using vibrant imagery to bring his message to life

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."

This is scripture designed to reach out through the Ages, a universal truth to all those who suffer. James makes it clear that God gives us trials, but it is Satan who tempts us into sin.

~~~
Hmmm I guess this is a little long...I find it nigh impossible to talk about my feelings. My academic review of James is an easy way to talk about the scripture without revealing my own weakness...I hope in time i can talk about my own faith without the clinical and distant fluff i hide behind :doh:
morning everyone. How is everyone doing? I got this newsletter from Rick Warren and WorriedOne and Raven came to mind instantly:
Biblical Prophesies: What Are the Odds?
by Rick Warren
“No prophecy ever originated from humans. Instead, it was given by the Holy Spirit as humans spoke under God's direction.” (2 Peter 1:21 GW)
The Bible is the most read book in history. It’s also the bestselling book in history and the most translated book in history.
Yet it’s more than that. It’s also God’s Word — God’s very breath. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (NIV).
That means the Bible isn’t just a good idea. It is God’s Word to us. One of the reasons I can know that the Bible is true and trustworthy is that it has thousands and thousands of prophecies that have come true and will come true in history. Every one of the Bible’s prophecies have either come true exactly as God predicted will come true sometime in the future.
The Bible contains more than 300 prophecies about Jesus alone — all written a thousand years before he was born. The Bible prophesized about when he’d be born, where he’d be born, and how he’d be born. He couldn’t have manipulated his birth to fulfill those prophecies.
It also predicted how he would die. A thousand years before Jesus died, David described Jesus’ death on the cross in one of the psalms. He didn’t use the word crucifixion because no one knew that word then. Long before the Romans were even thinking about crucifying people, David described it.
Only God could have known that.
What are the odds that I could make 300 predictions about you and every one of them would come true? It’s so astronomical you couldn’t write the number down. It takes more faith to believe that the Bible’s prophecies were a coincidence than to believe that God planned them.
The Bible says, “No prophecy ever originated from humans. Instead, it was given by the Holy Spirit as humans spoke under God's direction” (2 Peter 1:21 GW).
During Bible times, nobody wanted to be a prophet. The law in Israel was that a prophet of God had to be correct 100 percent of the time. If you were wrong just once, then you were considered a false prophet and would have been put to death. A prophet better be right!
And the Bible prophecies were right — every one of them. You can trust the Bible because what the Bible predicts comes true.
Talk About It
Do you trust that the Bible is true? Does your doubt keep you from hearing what God wants to say to you?
How is the Bible useful in your life? Do you only use it for encouragement, or is it also a tool for rebuking, correcting, and training in your life?
Today is James 2.
James 2:24 So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.
How true this is! I am soooo guilty of this. I may have faith, but without good works or putting God's word into daily action, how can I ever expect to be who God wants me to be? Action in God's word I must be.
Babegirl, there's only one unpardonable sin, rejecting Christ. If there's ever been a time that you ask Jesus to be your Savior, you've taken care of that.
