I attend an AOG and we are trinitarian. In fact, I just completed teaching a Sunday school series on the trinity. We are doing the cults and in particular Jehovah's Witnesses. The only way to understand the nature of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is in a trinitarian way. I will be touching on Oneness later on as a seperate entity.

The oneness, as well and all "one God" believers base some of what they believe on these scriptures:

Deuteronomy 6:4
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Deuteronomy 4:39
39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

Deuteronomy 5:7
7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

Mark 12:29
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

John 17:3
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 Timothy 6:15
15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Isaiah 43:3
3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

Isaiah 44:6
6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

Isaiah 44:8
8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

Isaiah 45:5
5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

Isaiah 45:6
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.

Isaiah 45:21
21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

Isaiah 54:5
5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

Hosea 13:4
4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

The "Jesus only" people consider Jesus to be all that God is:

Colossians 2:9
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Colossians 1:19
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Matthew 1:23
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

John 10:30
30 I and my Father are one.

John 10:38
38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

2 Corinthians 5:19
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

1 Timothy 3:16
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

John 20:28
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

1 John 5:20
20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Acts 20:28
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Revelation 1:8
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

I used to go to a UPC church..(they are the main "modern" oneness believers). Father Rick beat me again , but the early church has allready adressed this issue. They do love Jesus with all their heart, but any truth taken to extremes is called heresy. Any body of believers (or non believers) that claim to have a angle on the truth , and the only angle on truth is cultic by defintion.I hate to call these Jesus believing Christians cultic or believing in hersey...but , what else can you call it in this instance(..maybe saved , but un orthodox ?).....Lord have Mercy , Lord have Mercy , Lord.. have ..mercy
In Christ to Glorify Father , Son , and Holy Spirit (who proceeds from the Father)..sorry couldn't help myself , ...............................Shawners

P.S...I know my tone is strong, but I wrestled with this Trinity/Oneness arguement for a along time in my early Christian experience, and wasted time I could of been Glorifying Jesus. But instead wrestled with this concept to be politicaly correct . Look to early first century writings , and you'll see the "mind of the Church" agreeing with a Trinitarian standpoint.(Just look at the church councils, they once again allready delt with this )......Shawners

My biggest difference with the oneness is the point of salvation. Most of them believe you are not saved unless you speak in other tongues. They have removed themselves from the confession of faith being the point of salvation. However they are very devoted people and love God with all their hearts. It breaks my heart that they disagree with Jesus. After all, Jesus said if you confess me before men I will confess you before my Father in heaven.

Perspective from an ex-oneness!

what does your church doctrine teach and what are your opinions on oneness (jesus only) and trinity?

I consider them both to be limited , incomplete , and inaccurate doctrines . However , I don't see agreement with either doctrine to be damning . It isn't what doctrine one knows but Who one knows .

Actually, not to just make you wrong here NW, but when we look at the scripture, it is who knows us,..

23 (LIT) And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; "depart from Me, those working lawlessness!"

:amen:

when i became serious about God, He sent me to an Apostolic church. i know that i learned a lot of things about prayer and being faithful to God there. i learned how to talk to God and know that He was listening. i don't understand all there is to know about the Lord, but i know that those people are saved and love God. they are not any more saved than anyone else who calls on the Name of the Lord for salvation. i was taught the doctrine of one God, and although i now attend a Foursquare Church guess what? the pastor baptizes in the Name of Jesus! he came from a Church of God in Christ. the Bible says that whoever calls on the Name of the Lord would be saved, not whoever goes to the Apostoic Church, the Baptist or the Catholic. i don't understand a lot of theology and honestly cannot understand the concept of three persons but i will not argue with anyone who says that they do. i do know that i am saved and when i pray, God hears me. and if you called on the Name of the Lord and asked Him for salvation then you are too.
blessings to all,

bithia2,
I thought I needed to be rebaptised after I went a UPC church. The four square church I went to in Chandler AR., I chose because when I called them on the phone to ask what name they baptised in they told me,
"Father , Son , and HolySpirit , all in the name of Jesus"..I figured that covered all my bases. It was a very friendly community,
and helped but me on the right track with the Lord. After going to a UPC church before that , the UPC church had me doubting if I had the "Holy Spirit" , and doubt my giftings for christian music and ministry.Me having long hair to my waiste , and being in a christian heavy metal band , the UPC church said that was evidence alone that I wasn't saved and needed help.THank God for that move to Arizona , and a special Thank You Jesus to that Four Square church......In Christ , Shawners

praise God that no man has a heaven or hell to put anyone in. our salvation comes from God. if it was up to man only the ones they pick would be saved!
yes, the foursquare church is very friendly, and i know about how the other place can try to make you feel. i can still go there to visit if i choose to, but i don't let them intimidate me about my God. keep your long hair and let the Lord use your gifts in whatever way He wants to. somebody will want to know your God because you can be yourself and still give Him true praise.
blessings and be encouraged
