just out of interest as it's now one year since the hunting ban came in...wonderinig what you all think of it?

and i have some interesting facts for you to ponder as well :

1. over 900 foxes have been killed since the ban came in
2. more people hunt now than before the ban
3. there have been over 200 accusations of flouting the ban but NO convictions.

:)

and just for the record...i'm very very pro hunting and i think the above facts are absolutely, no other way about it, GREAT!! :D

I was interested to note that the environmentalists are now objecting to the resulting fox cull which they campigned so hard for...

hehe...:D...it is quite amusing, they can't honestly have thought that if hunting was banned the foxes would just be left to their own devices? lols

So you think its great to kill foxes are being killed do you? Sick!!

I think we should replace fox hunting with red-coated toff hunting.

theyre being killed anyway, in fact more are being killed now then when they were being hunted because they are being poisoned and shot by farmers wanting, quite rightly, to protect their livestock. i've seen what foxes can do to a flock of sheep or what happens if they get into a chicken pen, they NEED to be culled.

and by the way, it's not just toffs that hunt...i hunt, and i'm certainly not a toff...in fact i don't know many toffs at all...so please if you wish to start a red-coated toff hunt please do...i may even join in...:p

I think the ban was a poorly thought out poorly executed piece of legislation. I think regardless of what motivations many of its supporters had, the main motivation in the Labour Party was to do something which would in their view annoy Tories, particularly of the Toff variety.

The fact is we live in an artificial environment where we have totally destroyed the natural order by removing the majority of predators, those predators which remain, and do so unpredated, need to be limited in number in some way. I'm not saying being torn to pieces by dogs is something I approve of, I'm just saying I don't approve of the hunting ban and think a great deal of the logic surrounding it is suspect.

In any case, the police pointed out before it was passed that it was unenforceable, and that they would not be wasting too many police hours trying to enforce it, so there is little point in it existing.

If you took a gun and shot the fox you would be hunting.
The dogs hunt. You pursue on horseback and then enjoy the resultant savagery as they tear the fox limb from limb, still alive.
Please explain why this is so pleasurable. I understand the need for farmers to kill predatory animals, but not the need for taking pleasure in watching an animal suffer.
Had you lived some centuries ago, you would have been free to watch traitors being publicly disembowelled. Would that have been equally entertaining?

i wish people who said that would make some attempt at getting their facts straight...99% of the time the fox is shot and THEN given to the hounds...a fox is a hell of a lot faster than a hound and they don't normally catch it...and unless you've experienced the pure adrenaline rush of the chase i guess you wouldn't understand whats pleasurable about it...it's NOT, in any way, the killing thats pleasurable.

What is so good about hunting? Instead of killing foxes can't there be a more kind of containing them?

meh...they can't be contained...only culled, and hunting is a way to do that...can you think of a way to contain foxes??

I don't have a problem with it, although I think those that participate in hunts should be honest enough to admit that it has little to do with reducing the fox population and more to with the actual hunting and killing of the fox. Not all hunts are successful in actually catching a fox, so the argument that they provide a good service to farmers is a rather weak one at best. Possible alternatives  Not sure I know of any, to be honest....
