  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

BOLLYWOOD!!!!!!

As you can tell I am so not excited about Bollywood movies *rollseyes*

Actually I am completely in love with the ones that I have seen, perhaps with the exception of Dil Chata Hain which was beyond lengthy, and that's for an Indian film. Lol.
My favorite is Lagaan, beautifully done movie, it was nominated for an Oscar as best foreign film

Anywho, if there are any Bollyheads out there, give a shout out.

Does Bend it Like Beckham count as a Bollywood movie? Tee hee hee.

Actually, apart from the odd Youtube clip and bits & pieces here & there on TV, I've never seen a Bollywood movie. Much as I love a well-done song & dance number, Indian music is kind-of an acquired taste.

Bend it like Beckham is a good movie. It gives a pretty good insight into what it's like to be ABCD, or BBCD (American born confused Desi, or British born confused Desi). Another good movie that would be a good foundation if you wanted to get into bollywood watching would be the Namesake. It's along the same lines as Bend it like Beckham, but is perhaps a little more realistic in it's portrayal of an Indian family in the US.

You get used to the music. I like all of the songs where men sing alone. It's when you get the women singing that we as Westerners start to cringe. Take into account though that within the Indian culture,a very high nasal tone is considered the equivalent of a classic crystal pure first soprano voice, then you can start to tolerate Indian music.

What gets me every time is the song and dance numbers. Some of them are typical musical style reminiscent of any Broadway show, like the ones in Lagaan, (and if you want to watch a couple of good clips look up Lagaan Ghanan Ghanan, O Paalanhare, and Kaise Radha Najale, and Rang De Basanti.) There are others though that are so cheesy even Indians laugh at them. Case in point look up Dil Chata Hain. Good plot, great acting, laugh worthy love songs.
