CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

also. i only just noticed how long this thread was. i thought i just commented on the last post that was in it. oh well.
justin bieber's music is fun. i feel sorry for people that think music needs to only be about depth and tortured souls and intensity. there is room in everyone's lives for a little good hearted fun.

It's possible for music to be fun without being awful. Unfortunately Bieber hasn't realized this.

what classifies as "awful" music, then? what is the determining factors of if someone's music is "good" or "awful"?

Nothing except personal opinion. It's true that music is subjective: everyone likes different things and there's nothing wrong with that.
However, since I'm entitled to my opinion I will continue to state that I find his music awful. To each their own.

Justin Bieber looks like a 12 year old boy singing lyrics someone else wrote about topics a 12 year old boy wouldn't (or at least shouldn't) understand. It's weird and it's really off putting. Lady Gaga pretends she's a lot less talented than she is, but her talent actually comes through. I'm not a big LG fan, and I'm not going to say she's doing something that's new. But she does what she does well. Kesha is what Kesha is, but at least she fits the part. It would strike me the same if you had a girl that looked 13 singing Kesha's songs as Justin Bieber strikes me. The fact we've got a count down till he's legal going on just really reinforces this odd sexualization of what looks to me like a 12 year old girl.......

Actually, Lady Gaga isn't doing anything new. She's simply copying pages from the playbook of previous artists like Madonna: crazy outfits, "shocking" videos, sexually-charged lyrics and media stunts meant to attract attention simply for the sake of attention. I can't understand why our generation thinks many of these artists are original or brilliant but again, to each their own I suppose.
