Now it's thirty more days ... we went to court Thursday to finally determine all the financial. Her lawyer and mine went to the judge's chambers, and of course her lawyer didn't want to agree to anything, so now we have to go to mediation. I'm so angry about that - from the very beginning I made a decent offer, what to me and my lawyer (and lest anyone comment, my female friends including my divorce care teacher) was fair, and middle ground. It's much higher than the judge is allowed to grant to her, and most of my friends told me it's too high.

I've been encouraged by others to lower it, so that negotiation will end up here, and each time I've felt that lowering my offer is a betrayal of my integrity and what God would have me do - if my offer is a good offer, and I believe it is, then I stand my ground.

Her latest counteroffer was ridiculous - something like 2/3 of my income for 6 years and requires I take the joint debt. I see now that her lawyer put her up to asking for that so the middle ground is what they really want, which is still very high, and what I've been paying since Feb of 2007. (when they find out what I'm paying, all my female friends have said they want to divorce me too.)

I'm just sick to my stomach at this - I did what I felt was the honorable thing, and now I'll get *deleted* over it.

Please pray for the mediator to see the truth, to see how fair my offer was, and hold the line against simply "splitting the difference."

Of course the lawyer is trying to get the best deal he can for his client. Your lawyer should have done a better job of convincing you to pay your ex as little as possible. The courts will take care of your wife. You shouldn't worry about her getting enough of your hide to make ends meet. Your job since she left you is to keep as much of your *deleted* as possible.
