  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

<DIV>Except for the fact that when we go to heaven, there will be no difference between Catholic or Protestant.&nbsp; Thus i find it repulsive for any Christian to claim someone as not in full Communion in the Body of Christ(the church, whether you call it the Catholic church or not) because some Pope told them to believe this from his seat, if this is what happened.&nbsp; Utter Repulsive.</DIV>

To Quizzler:

This is the Catholic forum. If you wish to debate Catholic teachings, you need to take the topic to the Jewish/Protestant/Catholic Meeting Place.

I'm sorry if it is offensive of you. But it is NOT the teaching of "one Pope." It is the teaching of our CHURCH, and we believe our Church to be the one established by Jesus. That Church, as such, has authority, and it is so stated in Scripture.

CATHOLICS find it perhaps not offensive, but disturbing that others felt the need to break away from the Church.

I encourage you to read the Creeds of the Churches thread in J/P/C forum. You'll find that Protestant churches state in their very creeds, that Catholic teaching is repugnant.

THAT is offensive to me.

Peace be with you,
~VOW

<DIV>There is no question that there are great difference in teachings between the Catholic and Protestants.&nbsp; From Mary, to praying to the saints who have gone before us, to Penance, to Indulgences, to Baptism, to Infant Baptism, and more.&nbsp; </DIV>

<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>

<DIV>But placing creeds against catholicism, i don't know&nbsp;who.</DIV>

It is, just as it is a Protestant loving forum, and an Orthodox loving forum. We try to keep everyone well loved here. :)

I do think that infallibility of man is wrong... but I do not think it will ever be allowed to do any harm to Christianity. I have read papers from the Vatican that indicate that as soon as a Pope opens his mouth and declares something contrary to the truth of Christ... he immediately loses his position as Pope.

God at work. :)

Actually, I think the only way that would happen is if he tried to state something ex cathedra that contradicts Scripture and/or Catholic Tradition. Although, this has been somewhat confusing to me in the past. I don't mean any offense, but is this a scapegoat? I mean, the pope could say all kinds of wacky stuff, and then just say, "Just Kidding!!! I wasn't speaking ex catheeeEEEEEddddrrrrrrraaaaaaa!!! Neener-Neener!!!!! :p "

That is one of the biggest loads of anti-Catholic hooey I've ever heard. There's a LOT of garbage against Catholics and the Catholic Church, Stormy. Don't believe everything you read.

Vow: What are you saying? I do not understand.

There's a thread in the P/C/J forum, Stormy, called "Creeds of the Churches." And if you read my postings CAREFULLY, you'll find there are Protestant faiths which declare the Catholic teaching on transubstantiation is "repugnant." RIGHT IN THE CREED PROFESSING their faith, what they believe in, how they understand God, Salvation, and the Sacraments, they specifically take the effort to declare the Catholic teaching of Transubstantiation as "repugnant."

It don't get plainer than that.

Peace,
~VOW
