  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Really? How does one cell evolve?
cells evolve because when they multiply, the DNA and RNA replicate themselves. occaisionally a mistake will occur and it will either harm the bacteria, help the bacteria, or just not have any effect whatsoever. when a beneficial mutation occurs, this gets passed onto its offspring, and the life forms without this mutation will slowly die off and the ones with the beneficial mutation will survive. its God's wonderful gift of evolution by natural selection

I think gawd forgot to shave that day. Now, if only we had a razor we could lend her....

I know! Let's ask Occam! Maybe he has a razor.

what's wrong with believing in god and evolution?

Well, you're thinking more rationally than most theists, which is a very refreshing change. But I feel that there just isn't really any reason to believe in a god.

do you have any testable verfiable evidence that proves that god doesn't exist? until you find some, I will continue to believe in god

This is the evolution of populations of cells, not the cell itself. But you're on the right lines, which makes a nice change.

and it will either harm the bacteria, help the bacteria, or just not have any effect whatsoever. when a beneficial mutation occurs, this gets passed onto its offspring, and the life forms without this mutation will slowly die off and the ones with the beneficial mutation will survive.
Some points:
  • Any mutation can get passed to offspring, even detrimental ones.
  • Offspring without the new benefit don't necessarily die out, but their geneologies do tend to die out as the new geneologies are introduced into the old ones.
  • Mutations are called 'beneficial' if they improve the mutant's chance of producing grandchildren (and detrimental if they degrade the chance). Survival isn't strictly necessary for this.

Where did God come into all this?

what's wrong with believing in god and evolution?
There is no evidence for deities of any calibre. While belief in evolutionary theory is very well advised given the evidence presented for it, belief in theological concepts remain stubbornly unevidenced. Thus, belief in deities, whether involved in evolution or not, is illogical.

I dont think god exists just because it cant be disproven.
Good. Logic is a wonderful thing sometimes.

I have a bigger reason
