  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I feel that my belief in God is SO strong that I could never claim not to believe it. No one can change my mind, or make me think God doesn't exist. It is cemented in my being. It doesn't make me perfect. It doesn't mean all my decisions are perfect. But my belief in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are.

I understand when people haven't fully claimed Jesus Christ as their Savior that they would have doubts and such but I cannot understand those that have already accepted Jesus Christ that they would then choose to say they no longer believe in Jesus.
The people that do that, IMO, maybe never really knew Jesus.

Do you believe you can know Jesus and then change your belief to not believing in Him at all? I don't.

Yes, because I've done it before. I was going through a really complicated rough patch in my life and I became mad at God. I know it was the opposite of what I needed, but it was just one of those things that happened. I remember cursing God out and asking him why he'd allow these things to happen, and then I totally turned away from him altogether. After that things got even worse. I went through this for 2 years before I finally let God back into my life. It was the best decision I could have made and I like to think that I would never rebuke him again. Looking back now, the things I was going through were not even that big of a deal compared to some of the struggles other people experience. I think it's wonderful that you believe the way you do. It's a beautiful thing.

I get being mad at God and turning your back, but that is not the same as not believing He existed or did what He did on the cross for us. Wouldn't you agree? You didn't decide that God wasn't real, you just turned away from Him, knowing full well that He existed, you were just invoking your free choice to not follow Him right?

Yes, I guess you are right. I never doubted that he existed. I was just mad at him for making my life miserable. It was stupid and I see that now. You're right it would be next to impossible, at least for me, to ever stop believing he exists. But I guess a lot of people do change their minds. My brother grew up in the church with me and kept believing into his early 20's. He's now 50 and has been an atheist for over 25 years. He studied theology in college and somehow became convinced that there was no way God existed. I've never debated with him because he is hard-headed and I already have high blood pressure. I just pray that he will have a change of heart and let him back in his life.

It may be improbable ,but not impossible. After all, Judas stopped believing in Jesus.

I agree 100% with the OP and post 3. Whenever this comes up, I relate it to the "childlike" belief and trust the Bible talks about. I know God exists, and believe there is a Jesus and He died and rose for me. To not believe is unthinkable.
And no one knows what Judas believed or did not believe, only that he betrayed Christ.

Well ,would you betray someone in whom you have faith in? I would seriously doubt that. If Judas really belived that Jesus is the Son of GOd,he would not have sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus would be far valuable ( to Judas) than a mere 30 pieces of silver.

We weren't there. It's conjecture.

Of course we were not there. My question was directed at you, not Judas.
Would you sell out a friend for money? Are you a loyal person? I do not think that you would sell somebody out, and/or take a bribe.

I have watched people sell out friends and family for a lot less than 30 pieces of silver. Peter denied knowing Jesus 3 times. That does not mean he stopped believing. I honestly don't believe that most of the disciples really believed completely that Jesus was God until He rose from the dead.

Judas repented, returned the money, and killed himself over the grief and shame of selling out Jesus. I think he just had a moment of weakness and humaness in there. I won't be surprised to see Judas in Heaven.

We don't know that. So you can't state it as if it were fact. But that's not what the thread is about anyway.

Betraying Him is quite different from not believing in Him. And guess what? Jesus knew he would do that before He even picked him to be a disciple! Imagine that! And then why do you suppose that Judas killed himself? I think it was because he KNEW Jesus was God

But we won't know for sure until we get to eternity so....
