Hello Jwcats,

I suppose "one baptism" means "the only baptism which God requires" -
in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, rather than saying the act must only be done once.

However, if we have believed Christ and been baptised, that is complete, and lasts for eternity, so what is the point of repeating the act?

There are cases when a believer comes to Christ as an adult, and wants to obey the instruction to be baptsed, even though they were Christened as an infant. I did this myself, since I was Christened as a baby, then "confirmed" as a teen, even though I didn't really know what I believed.

I think some Christians would say that was unecessary, but I felt it was right to ackowledge publicly that God had saved me and I belong to Him.

Blessings, Susana

Susana is right, and only a person knows their own heart, whether or not they should go and make an adult conscious confession of their faith before a congregation of believers in baptizm. If they are strong in their faith, as an adult, that their childhood baptizm was their public confession, then that would be fine. As adults, we have to examine our own lives as to whether or not we are in the faith, and act according to what we see in ourselves in the mirror of God's Word.

2Co 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know you not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except you be reprobates?

James 1:22 But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like to a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and straightway forgets what manner of man he was.
25 But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Ephesians 4:

4There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to one hope when you were called-- 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

There can only be one truth, and so one of each of these.

Thanks, you guys! I posted the question to back up what I already knew.
My best friend's stepson (who has just graduated with a degree in theology,of all things!) has been baptized atleast 1/2 dozen times! Funny thing too,is that he doesn't believe in taking communion too often ,as he believes that doing so unsurps the significance of it!
