What is the real purpose of tithing? Is there a purpose?

If you are expected to be blessed (and the Church teaching points focuses on material blessings more than it teaches spiritual blessing of of obedience), then why isn't the Church or world filled with many christian millionaires/billionaires? There are many many christians who have been faithful in this biblical principle all their lives..and yet, they can't even count their blessings(literally)? Why do you have a lot more non-christians apparently blessed in a material sense of the word, than christians? There are non-christians out there who do not understand this biblical principle and yet they have more than enough......Case and point: Are Bill Gates or Donald Trump christians and do they tithe?

Let's discuss....:)

To build churches, pay pastors, fund missions, and as a sacrafice to the Lord.

I go to a pretty small church (less than 100 people), and as they have to support a full-time priest, having a steady, dependable income is rather important.

I think the problem in society today is that people feel that tithing has no purpose. I agree that when they speak about tithing, they say you will be rewarded, just as you give. The Lord never intended for us to give just to get back. We are to have a cheerful heart when giving. The only issue I take up is the fact that we are required to give 10%. I have yet to see in the Bible where it states that is what is required. We give what our heart feels to give, not what man may dictate. If I'm wrong in this, please let me know. Vale
