• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

On the way back??

I am just so happy that I had to post. I am suffering from depression a great deal. I had an appointment to see a psychologist on September 27 (he is booked 2 1/2) months in advance) but my husband convinced me to call them to see if there were any sooner appointments and I now have one for tomorrow! I am hoping so badly that he can get into my head and help me figure things out. I also need my medication tweaked. Has anyone here ever been to a Pshcologist?
Also, I found a wonderful councillor that I am meeting with on Friday who is also a Pastor at our local Salvation Army. She also offers a depression and anxiety group that meets on Mondays which I have just signed up for. I am so happy that I finally may be on the road to recovery!

It can be confliciting to receive services from more than one therapist at a time. Be sure that you tell your psychologist about the work you are doing in the other group. It might be no big deal or it might be a conflict.

Remember that often in treatment one feels better at first, then sometimes feels a bit worse. That does not mean therapy is not working it could mean that it is in fact working by pushing some emotional buttons that need to be worked out. Stick with the therapy and talk through those times when they come up.

Please try to attend church weekly and stay in prayer and reading of the bible.

Yes, I have been to a psycologist. It was quite a few years ago. I don't know if it's the same in the States, but here...the difference between a psychiatrist and a psycologist is that the psychiratrist can perscribe meds where a psycologist can not. I only mention this because you said you 'need your meds tweaked.

I think a depression and anxiety group would be great  . Support is always encouraging in our road to 'recovery'.

 s & :prayer: s,

That's a good point that you brought up WantToBe. I will have to investigate whether a Psychologist in Canada can prescribe Meds.
Thanks to everyone for your support.

Well, I had a good appointment. He took my history, adjusted my meds, suggested highly that I find a support group and to come back in two weeks. I have already found a Christian support group so I am going to make it, slowly but surely! I feel I have hope especially when he said "you will get well".
Encouraging eh?
