  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pandora's box as a phrase has its root in greek mythology, here's a very abbreviated version of the myth.

Originally man was created by Prometheus and his brother and lived in a paradise. The god's became angry for some reason ( I dont recall ) and resolved to punish man. In order to do this they created the first woman, Pandora, she herself was not however the punishment, being furnished with the very best that the god's could give her and being irresistably beautiful. Even the name itself actually means 'all-gifted'. Pandora was given as a wife to Prometheus brother and with her came a box or jar which Pandora was instructed never to open, for a time she resisted her curiousity but eventually was unable to resist the temptation and opened the box. Unfortunately, just as Pandora had received the best the god's could give so the god's had put the worst in the box and once it was opened sickness, pain and death entered the world as well as all manner of other unpleasant things.

Hence its best not to open a Pandora's box.
