I really hated the show last night. I felt like it was a bait and switch -- this wonderful, unique, interesting show turned into an American Idol wannabe, annoying host and all.

I wish they'd kept it like last week's episodes.

I was sorry to see Phil go too. I really thought Kenny should have left -- that weird cab driver film was incomprehensible.

I didn't see last week's show so I don't know how to compare it.

What a S-T-U-P-I-D movie!!
I was so mad he stayed.
My daughter said last week he was yelling at his two female partners.
She doesn't like him for that.
I just thought his humor was too British for me, or something!
Incomprehensible is a great word for it.

I agree that the cab driver film was really strange and not funny at all.

I'm a bit surprised that Phil went home. I thought "Please Hold" was pretty funny.

Maybe I sound insensitive but I guffawed at "Ghetta Room". I honestly didn't think "mentally challenged" when I watched it, rather I thought "what a nerd!"

I was more impressed with the men's films than I was with the ladies. The best out of the ladies was the one where the woman was fantasizing she was doing the strip tease with the cute guy at airport security. (don't recall the name of it)

"Love In The Year 2007" was somewhat funny too. I laughed when the main character says indigently "I am not lonely!...I have over 2000 my space friends!"


but other than those two, the ladies movies left a lot to be desired. "How To Screw In A Lightbulb" was just... um... what?

Yeah I agree, the light bulb one was bizarre.

I thought Ghetta room was hilarious, personally. The guy did not strike me as mentally challenged, but I think it's because he reminded me SO MUCH of the guy in the movie Office Space who's always getting his stapler stolen and being moved to worse and worse offices.

So I guess all 15 of the remaining contestants each made a film up to 3 minutes in length,
but they're only going to show us 5 per week,
for 3 weeks.
And each week, 1 out of the 5 gets eliminated.
That doesn't seem like a fair way of doing it.

I just read yesterday that the videos they showed us this week were not new. They were the submission videos the five contestants sent in to get on the show in the first place. I'm assuming that's what we'll see from the remaining 15, too.

I really don't know what happened to this show. The first couple of weeks were incredible, and it just took such a downward turn.

That host, she's terrible. Did you hear her call Carrie Fisher, "Carrie Fishie"??? And then at the end of last week's show, she said something like, "Try Ford as a cure for your boredom... not from this show, though!!" Oh man. She's just horrible.

Visually, I thought Shalina's film was the most well-done,
though some frame-jumping was annoying,
and I didn't care for the writing that much.

Everyone complained about Hillary's film being too close up and not having any "establishing shots".

It's hard to know what we're voting for,
because one person can be a better writer than another person,
but it's not a writing contest... is it?

I might like their film because it's well written,
but maybe the directing isn't all that great,
so why should they win a directing contest?

Or maybe I don't like the way a film was written at all,
but visually it's excellent.
Am I just voting for the visual,
or am I voting for the overall product-
which I think no longer qualifies it as a "Directing" contest,
because then you're judging the acting and the writing, too.

beside regulars Carrie Fisher and Garry Marshall on the moviemaking competition series

ON THE LOT Tuesday, June 12 at 8/7c on FOX.


Tonight, one of the five from last week will be eliminated from the competition.


In addition, an undisclosed second group of five director finalists will premiere their films for the judges' feedback, and viewers again will vote for their favorites after the broadcast.

I agree with you, FallingWaters, about the screen-writing aspect of the show. I would much prefer for each of them to receive written scripts, and they direct it in their own style and interpretation. It would make it so much easier to judge their abilities as a director, comparing apples to apples.

As far as last week's episode, my two favorites were "Broken Pipe Dreams" and "Dough, The Musical". I thought "Dough..." was very charming. I didn't care much for the other 3 movies.

From this week's episode, I thought "Polished" was very funny and "Love At First Shot" was kinda cute. I like the darkness and edginess of "Dance With The Devil." I didn't care at all for "Beeline" or "Edge On The End."

I am in complete agreement with you.

I gave all my votes to Polished -
about the janitor who gets revenge.
It wasn't perfect but it was good-
better than any of the others.

And in order to not suffer another disappointment like I did when they announced "Hillary the disgusting mommy" was staying,
I voted continually for the next hour.
I only got one busy signal.

I agree, he's really good.

I couldn't believe the attitude that one guy gave to Carrie Fisher when she criticized his film. I think she was really offended by that.

He was a really "in your face" kinda guy.
I couldn't believe he had the nerve to talk to her that way!
Of course, Carrie kinda dished it out to him, too.
That was an unkind comment that was probably unnecessary.
He didn't want to admit he was arrogant.
Then the next guy comes right out and says, "I like your arrogance."

Marty was eliminated. I'm not surprised, really, his attitude didn't win him any points. He admitted that he thought he went over the top in front of the judges. Carrie Fisher said, "If you can't take criticism from me, Mean Old Carrie, you're going to have a problem in Hollywood."

Will's film was very good. If it's online somewhere you should try to check it out. It was really funny!

Really. She's almost as harmless as Paula Abdul.
He reminds me of myself when I was young-
arrogant and deceived.

Will's film was very good. If it's online somewhere you should try to check it out. It was really funny!

They post them on the official website but not until the next day.
I went to see it.
It was okay.
He spent too much time wondering about his hand.
I didn't get it until half way through.
He shouldn't have used up 3 minutes.
It seemed too long.

Plus, the eye was right on his chest.
He should have prevented the dog from taking it.
Hence another one of those moments you have to tell yourself,
it happened that way because it's in the script.
I liked the use of b & w and color.

Why was he shaking his foot?
Why did Will show him sitting there twice when once would have sufficed?

Cute and imaginative story though.

Will- Glass Eye - good movie, very imaginative story line, i.e. being able to see out of your glass eye even after it has fallen out of your head and is rolling around on the floor, or inside your doggy's tummy. Dragged out some parts too much.

Will's last movie was Lucky Penny which was also well written and executed. It was a Top 3 movie.

Jason - Blood Born - I voted for Jason. I liked the writing and the directing was good, too. The judges spent more time hung up on his previous comments and calling him a hypocrite than on actually giving him a constructive critique. Out of all the films, his made the most sense to me.
The only thing is when the answering machine was playing, Jason should have made sure we could clearly hear his friend warning him that he should watch his back because somebody he owed money to was looking for him. It wasn't loud and clear enough.
It had a tragic ending.

Will's previous film was Ghetta Rhoom which was a Top 3 film, but also controversial because it appeared to make fun of mentally handicapped people when in fact he meant the guy to just be a regular nerd.

Zach - Sunshine Girl - I mean it's Zach. How can I not like it? But I didn't get it! I thought the little girl was afraid of the dark under her bed. I thought she grabbed the sun and brought it in so that she could light up the underneath of her bed and get her stuff out. But instead she played with the sun, dropped it, and it rolled under the bed. The fantasy part of it was imaginative, but the story didn't make sense to me. Why did she get the sun?? And how does that relate to the underneath of her bed. Too confusing.

Zach's other film was Danger Zone about the safest lab in the country. That was a Top 3 movie, too, in the first round.

Mateen - Lost - a sad story about a guy who lost a girl, wanted to marry her, but it was too late. They said he shot it too close in, like a soap opera. The closeness didn't bother me. The dialog was interesting. I liked it.

Mateen's previous film was Soft, the story about a guy whose friends tell him he's too soft. To prove them wrong he mugs an old lady who turns out to be his grandmother and who sends him flying with a right hook.

Jessica - The Orchard - What?! That made sense to somebody?! That was the most excruciatingly boring stupid thing I've ever seen!

Her last movie was To Screw in a Light Bulb which was also confusing.

I hope she goes home.
