  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have you ever been talking with someone about God and they get defensive? Or even taught in love and steped on some toes of fellow christians? It is odd how we are quick to be defensive when we are convicted isn't it? I have always found it odd that we defend instead of acknowledging conviction. For those that do that anyway.

Definitely. Or how about when you read a Scripture that totally convicts you, maybe you were caught up in some sin that you didn't even realize, and so you go on the defensive, trying to tell God why what you've been doing is okay!

How's that for over-defensiveness?

I have a freind who is going through a marriage breakup for no real reason at all and is turning very ugly. He asked my opinion having gone through a divorce myself and very gently tried to tell him to seek Gods direction about it and I got my head chewed off for it and since then he just tells me how much worse it continues to get. In my own heart I have turned the matter over to God and I just keep praying for him I don't know what elsethere is for me to do.

It's possable there are things going on you may not know about too. But yeah, it's good to turn it over to God.

We have been freinds for eight years and worked together for the last five. From what I have been told I think most of their problems could be worked out with a good marriage counsler but even that is out of the question. I know I'm not there all the time and I don't know either of their hearts but from my point of view it is mostly the problems that you run across when you haven't been married long. As I said I think the Lord working on both of them is going to be the thing that would change this not words from freinds and family.

Yeah I know what you mean with them being defensive. I was talking to a friend of mine at shcool last week about God. This is a girl who believes that Harry Potter is just a fantasy, so it isn't evil. I tried explaining to her that it comes from the devil and that makes it evil. She was making all kinds of excuses of why it isn't evil. Like her mother and her mother's friend says it's ok. I know her main problem is that she's likes so much, so she doesn't want to believe. I've found myself doing the samething. So yeah I know what you mean when someone goes on the defensive about God.

I have had that happen, and it always baffles me...isn't faith supposed to be shared among Christians?

On the other hand, I guess God works through us without us even knowing it!

I don't think someone disagreeing with you should be considered being defensive.
