CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
Spong is an apostate. He does not believe in any of the doctrines essential to being a christian and teaches many things okay that are abominable to God. He himself lives and abominable lifestyle has no oil in his lamp and has not trimmed his wick...Jesus never knew him...He is NOT a child of God but works for the Anti-Christ and will be opposed to those with Christ at the judgment just as he is now (and he has been called to repentance many times but will not)...the man is an apostate...Lord either please save him or else Lord rebuke him...

It's still sounding, I believe, many still need to hear it as it has a distance to cover. Just my thoughts, mind you

I, also, hear the Shofar blasting announcing God's grace and mercy for those that allow IIPet.1:21, 22 ring true regarding the Gospels true one interpretation AND I also hear the Trumpet announcing God's judgment and justice for those that do not do the former and may include me ... let me examine myself this morning .... thank you so much

To mog144 I don't really know how to respond to your word of encouragement ... For once I let my heartful silence thunder forth in agape. For the past, almost 3 decades, i have learned so much from those that absolutely, not only disagreed with me, but didn't like me too much, to say the least ... long ago when I adamantly thought I was correct for months at a time and to find out i was not only wrong ... some, not very accountable Christian, in the Church is the one who showed me where I was perverting the Word of God .... since that time i have moved from disagreeing because i had the Truth, i thought i did anyway, to heartfully learning to agree to disagree where the other may be correct hence don't underestimate anyone just because they don't hold a high position in the Church. I still ask the God-man, Lord Jesus Christ for being such a "FOOL."

Yes, John Shelby Spong is probably, and certainly for this writer, the most egregious blasphemer of God, who insinuates himself into the fellowship of God's people, having held at one time, a fairly high position of leadership.
