  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When Noah let out a dove, it came back with an olive leaf. Why do you suppose that is in the Bible, or more specifically do you think it has any deeper meaning?

For instance, the raven that was sent out must have landed, as it didn't come back. My thinking is the only thing to land on would be dead bodies. Ravens aren't stupid, so it wouldn't have simply flew until it died, and it does eat meat, so I think there's something more to this story, just can't figure it out yet.

Actually, in other archaelogical records there are similar writings, but a different bird. So doesn't really mean anything deeper.

Canadian Indian Tradition

Neben Manito rolled into the sea, and cried, "Revenge! Revenge!" Then all the assembled monsters of the deep rushed headlong after the slayer of their king. The prophet fled in consternation before the outraged creatures that hurled after him mountains of water, which swept down the forests like grass before the whirlwind. He continued to flee before the raging flood, but could find no dry land. In sore despair he then called upon the God of Heaven to save him, when there appeared before him a great canoe, in which were pairs of all kinds of land-beasts and birds, being rowed by a most beautiful maiden, who let down a rope and drew him up into the boat.

The flood raged on; but, though mountains of water were continually being hurled after the prophet, he was safe. When he had floated on the water many days, he ordered Aw-milk (the beaver) to dive down and, if he could reach the bottom, to bring up some earth. Down the latter plunged, but in a few minutes came floating to the surface lifeless. The prophet pulled him into the boat, blew into his mouth, and he became alive again. He then said to Waw-jashk (the musk-rat), "You are the best diver among all the animal creation. Go down to the bottom and bring me up some earth, out of which I will create a new world; for we cannot much longer live on the face of the deep."

Down plunged the musk-rat; but, like the beaver, he, too, soon came to the surface lifeless, and was drawn into the boat, whereupon the prophet blew into his mouth, and he became alive again. In his paw, however, was found a small quantity of earth, which the prophet rolled into a small ball, and tied to the neck of Ka-ke-gi (the raven), saying, "Go thou, and fly to and fro over the surface of the deep, that dry land may appear." The raven did so; the waters rolled away; the world resumed its former shape; and, in course of time, the maiden and prophet were united and repeopled the world.

Masai (East Africa):

Tumbainot, a righteous man, had a wife named Naipande and three sons, Oshomo, Bartimaro, and Barmao. When his brother Lengerni died, Tumbainot, according to custom, married the widow Nahaba-logunja, who bore him three more sons, but they argued about her refusal to give him a drink of milk in the evening, and she set up her own homestead. The world was heavily populated in those days, but the people were sinful and not mindful of God. However, they refrained from murder, until at last a man named Nambija hit another named Suage on the head. At this, God resolved to destroy mankind, except Tumbainot found grace in His eyes.

God commanded Tumbainot to build an ark of wood and enter it with his two wives, six sons and their wives, and some of animals of every sort. When they were all aboard and provisioned, God caused a great long rain which caused a flood, and all other men and beasts drowned. The ark drifted for a long time, and provisions began to run low. The rain finally stopped, and Tumbainot let loose a dove to ascertain the state of the flood. The dove returned tired, so Tumbainot knew it had found no place to rest. Several days later, he loosed a vulture, but first he attached an arrow to one of its tail feathers so that, if the bird landed, the arrow would hook on something and be lost. The vulture returned that evening without the arrow, so Tumbainot reasoned that it must have landed on carrion, and that the flood was receding.

When the water ran away, the ark grounded on the steppe, and its occupants disembarked. Tumbainot saw four rainbows, one in each quarter of the sky, signifying that God's wrath was over.

6 After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark
40 days speaks of temptation, the flood speaks of evil, the earth speaks of renew of church. Hence this is the renew of church, by through temptation, and during temptation, evil covers all good and truth. the shutting of ark is the enclosing of our spirit. the opening of window is the opening of our senses.

7and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth.
Raven is a unclean, bulky, and untamed bird that speaks of what is false. before the renew, only false is out of man soul, it goes back and forth, means it doesn't know what's good and bad. he's action is false just as he's thinking. and there is no ground, or good and truth, to be found. the false knowledge that go out to seek truth, back and forth in the state of what seems good and bad. yet how can false find truth.

8 Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground. 9 But the dove could find no place to set its feet because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark.
This beginning of regeneration now is thru faith. dove speaks of faith or faith of God. At this phase of transformation, faith still see evil over the land. There is no truth and good to be found. This speaks of faith find no good in man. Even the good work man does is still false. hand speaks of the ability of man. reaching out speaks of the work of man. Noah took the dove back in speaks of man doing what is good and evil according to he's judgment. he exercise faith accordingly.

10 He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. 11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.
7 day speaks of what is holy. days speaks of determination. This phase of man faith is complete and holy. and find a little leaf, which speaks of some good and truth can be found. Olive speaks of what is good, leave speaks of what is true. both can be find in the Edan. this is just a little bit of truth found. Symbolize our understanding of good and true doepends on our learning of Words and our memory. it is not completed in us. and the renew is now almost complete. Evening speaks of the beginning of what's to come.

12 He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him.
more complete holiness is in this state of man. 2 speaks of testified. so 2 of 7 is the holiness can be testified. the good and true of the gound is in man, hence faith is realized. Hence man is now complete in good and truth, hence faith did not return. the renew of the church is now a reality.

as Enoch stated the dove is symbolic of Gods Kingdom. the dove coming back with the olive leaf, leaf coming from the branch would have been symbolic of God giving mankind another chance - opportunity. a reaching out- branch from God to man because of his Love for man-His creation. notice in Rev it states the LEAVES of the Tree of Life would heal the nations the leaf is again symbolic of Gods Love towards His creation -mankind. and as we know from scripture ALL scripture is fulfilled in Love loving God and ALL People, then if LOVE be the fulfillment of the Word and we know from scripture Christ is the Word then Christ be LOVE and the leaf from the olive branch of Love from God to Mankind is CHRIST= LOVE the Tree of Life =Christ=Love take notice the tree of life bears 12 manners of fruit-take note in 1Cor13:4-7 that [kjv] there are 12 manners-characteristics of Love God = Christ = LOve the fine golden thread runs from Gen. to Rev.
as Enoch stated the raven is symbolic of satans kingdom- no branch and no love only death
As far as symbolic teachings go your ?? on this specific scripture hit the nail on the head no doubt the Holy Spirit lead you to this study !!

:amen:agreed !! no salvation outside of Christ
you are probably right the use of the word chances wasnt really exactly the right choice of words. no one word can describe what i was trying to say it may be that three numbers can explain better !! 666- 6 being symbolic of incomplete-unfinished work, the first 6 symbolic of pre flood time frame of mankind the second 6 being post flood time frame of man to the coming of Christ and the third 6 being symbolic of the time frame after Christ-cross tell the end-Christs return. ONLY by turning to and accepting Christ as saviour do we become a 7 at all other time we are marked as 666- symbolic of incomplete works.

I'm not the brightess light on the site but I do know it takes longer then 7 days for a tree to grow a leaf.

brother two weeks ago i went in my back yard never been a flower there in twenty years on sunday there was no plant and no flower on twesday of that same week there stood two huge 3 1/2 foot tall fully mature fully bloomed Brightest red tulips anyone has ever seen standing side by side they are huge. no bulb has ever been planted there. now some may say maybe a squirel dug and planted them doubtful but possible but what can not be explained is a full mature plant in two days that my friend is not possible. I know what God was telling me [ where there is two or more so there is God] but my point is anything is possible concerning God. but then i know you know that but it gave me a chance to tell about my God given tulips

I'd not thought of this before, but how appropriate that it was an olive shoot!

The dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit, carrying to man the shoot of the tree that would later produce oil for God's anointing!

I like that. :)

Wow.. I like that too..
