I was reading on another forum a similar debate on whether or not baptism was necessary for salvation. Someone for the faith only side used the example of the theif on the cross, and a rebuttal was used "Well that was under the old disensation of grace"
Now, not really trying to stir up an argument or debate here (and this may be the wrong forum but i didnt know where else to put it), but is grace grace regardless of if its from the old covenant or the new? Does not the new covenant simply fulfill the old? Is not the core purpose of the new covenant to bring us to a closer relationship with the same God who loves us all dearly?
Why must we get caught up in these petty debates on which dispensation of grace the theif on the cross was under? To what concern is it to the theif if he winds up in the same place? Is not faith, faith; and is not justification, justification; and is not holiness, holiness regardless of which covenant it is on.
Cherish the grace you have been freely given by realizing that grace never changed...God never changed, but it was that deep loving desire that God had for you to get a closer relationship with you that put you under the "new dispensation" of the same great grace.
Anyone else agree?
