• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi Hon,

When we have injuries as self-harm causes, as the injuries heal they can itch. Putting lotion on them can help, it's the healing that is most likely causing the itch from what I've understood - the scarring process. I think it's a good idea that you have been putting lotion on them.

You aren't worthless because it itches. You aren't worthless because you hurt yourself. It's not coping well to self-injure, but that doesn't have anything to do with our worth.

Take gentle care of you.

Kristen

Hey Leechness

A question, are your scars smooth, or do they look raised and bumpy. Sometimes with scars what happens is that they kelloid which means they will go all raised and bumpy and it can itch like crazy. It doesnt mean that you are worthless its a natural part of the healing process unfortunately it can be really uncomfortable.

I have found that vitamin E cream helps with the itching, and also helping the scars to go less raised and bumpy, if you can find a non scented vitamin e cream all the better the scented ones can be alot harder on the scar tissue.

Yerr hun,
Its like what kristen said, its just them healing properly. Even if they look healed, scars are always changing.
Mine use to itch all the time, i felt like i had flees :p
even non-self injury related injurys itch sometimes.
you dont need to feel like cutting.

you are far from worthless, the bible says the God knows all the sparrows by name, but you my dear are worth so much more then the sparrows & your more pressious to Him then gold because He created you, He loves you just for being you.
At the moment you hurt yourself, but thats not who you are. You're a beautiful young women that is going to do amazing things.

It it natural. Sometimes mine itch even after 6 months! i'm no doctor, but i think just because the outside is healed or scabbed over, doesnt mean the inside is. And sometimes I think it's a mental thing. Sometimes when I see one of my scars it will start to itch. Not all the time, but sometimes its just a mental thing. But it will get better, don't worry!

You are NOT worthless!!! while self- injury IS a destructive behavior, that doesn't mean YOU are a destructive person. Jesus loves you. He doesn't approve of our (meaning SI ers) behaviors and habits, He still loves us! Even though it seems like He has abandoned us, He hasn't. (Im telling myself this too) I don't know why we have to go thru the things that lead us to cut, but I know it's for a reason. I pray God shows us that reason soon.

yeah Tenebrae, the ones that itch like crazy are raised and bumpy - that area ranges from months ago. so its normal for it to still itch after that long? they there's no sign of pus infection.
...yeah, ill start applying vE cream on it again.

awo, i'll try and remind myself all the positive things you guys have said....im having one of those off days where i think the action of self harm is quite argk...therefore i am argk...dont mind me...im just feeling a bit rubbish about the thing.

i dont feel any better, but i've learnt they are truths... - but then maybe its not about feelings. i suppose if truth was based on feelings it would be subjective to change - and that wouldnt be truth, just our interpretation of truth, perhaps.

thanks for everyone's advice.

You could try getting the sort of cream that is meant for bug bites, if it's really bothering you.
I don't remember mine itching for an extremely long time, but definitely during the healing period. My piercings definitely itch for months, but that's not totally comparable, of course.

if you can get an aloe plant...that might help, the coolness of it relieves itching, and it's about as mild as anything you can put on..

hope that helps. take gentle care of yourself

( and yea i realize this is probably pointless cause the original post is over 2 months old..oh well)
