I think students should be required to hand copy the entire Bible and memorize it, just like monks in medieval monasteries.
Yes, why is that a problem? Why should what be an issue? Requiring te Bible to be read in a government school?
because seperation of church and state.Yes, why is that a problem?
Does the secular state mandate a curriculum of certain texts? Like the US constitution? Why should the bible be verboten? We are officially a secular country and don’t have a state church?
Is that something you wish to defend?because seperation of church and state.
yesIs that something you wish to defend?
Do you approve of the secular state mandating the reading of secular books in public school?
depends on the book. Are we talking about history books random books? Classics?Do you approve of the secular state mandating the reading of secular books in public school?
It could be any book. Are you pro secular education and forcing kids to read any secular book in the curriculum?depends on the book. Are we talking about history books random books? Classics?
Do I find the Bible unfit no but it has no place as required reading in public schools. With the exception of maybe if a world reglion class is offered and you are required to read portions of other relgious books as well as the Bible. It could be any book. Do you find the bible unfit for educational purposes?
The bible has no place in public schools? Yet secular books do? Can you explain your reasoning for preferring secular texts over the bible? Are they superior? Is the bible equal to all other religious texts?Do I find the Bible unfit no but it has no place as required reading in public schools. I agree and it must become more so in every generation. It remains a great translation in itself but time takes its toll. Still, for $1.25, I would rate it highly in respect to the expression: “you get what you pay for” in this case. I think for anyone in immediate need of a Bible, the Dollar Tree option is ok. ( I don’t work for $ tree). That’s unfortunate.
I’m not a huge fan of the KJV, to be honest. Find the language a bit archaic.
Note I said the Bibe has no place as REQUIRED reading in public schools. If a student wishes to bring a Bible to school to read at a Christian club or even on heir own time that is perfectly fine, but the Bible has no place as required reading nor does the Qu'ran nor does the Torah or any other relgious book. On the other hand, it is important to know history no matter what your chosen relgion, the classics are classics for a reason and it is imprtant to have a basic understanding of things ike science no matter your personal beliefsThe bible has no place in public schools? Rescue Missions usually have them for free in their thrift stores.I agree and it must become more so in every generation. It remains a great translation in itself but time takes its toll. Would you consider the US constitution required reading?Note I said the Bibe has no place as REQUIRED reading in public schools. closer to it than the Bible. Though I am not sure how reasonable it would be to have enough copies of the constitution for all public schools or even all public high schools.Would you consider the US constitution required reading?
Huh? US schools don't teach the Constitution?closer to it than the Bible. Though I am not sure how reasonable it would be to have enough copies of the constitution for all public schools or even all public high schools.
You asked should it be required reading not required learning. Should students be required to learn about the constitution the general set up branches of government amendments ECT YES which they do. That does not mean that the student is given a copy of the consitution to read word for word or even scan like they are given copies of certain classic books to read and have tests over particular details.Huh? US schools don't teach the Constitution?
So they should be required to learn about it but not read the text? Can you explain how they learn about the constitution without access to the text? You asked should it be required reading not required learning.
