There is this new show on Netflix called Cosmos.

It explores space, nature and how the world works. They also obviously talk about evolution and how the earth and space have changed over billions of years.

I've always loved space and how much God gave us to explore and see but as a Christian do you think it is ok to watch this series? Has anyone here watched it and can give me feedback on what may or may not be true?

Thanks.

It's okay. You know what you believe, take what is of value, and ignore the rest.

I Like space and animal shows too but it depends on how strong your faith is. I don't like the Nova science shows because they strongly propagandize evolution by mentioning in some form every 5 minutes. Some of these shows are really try to program that in your brain to plant the seed of doubt. So just be careful, God Bless!

The original Cosmos with Carl Sagan was pretty good, this new show is flashy but way to agenda driven and "preachy"... that's the real reason not to watch it.

Is it ok for a Christian to believe in evolution and creation? That God created everything but it took say 6 billion years to form and not 6 days?

That is a question God can answer because he will be able to judge a person's heart. Evolution is more of a religion than a science, a scientist every year keeps changing the date the earth was made. In the 60's they said the Earth was made a million years ago and then every other textbook increased the years after that. The fact is they do not know, how much credibility can one have if they keep changing their answer year after year. Check out the website 6000years.org for more of a scientific explanation that lines up with God. You can also check out Kent Hovind's talks on youtube. God bless!

I think it's OK to say: I don't know, I wasn't there... but it appears the Earth is very old, and that species may adapt and change.

As someone noted, I don't think it's something that one's salvation rests on... believe in God, trust in Him, and don't get hung up on exactly how He created this wonderful universe.

Thanks and very well put. It is easy to get caught up on how the earth was formed. Even re-reading Gen. 1, God could of took billions of years, I guess we don't know.

I loved the series. Obviously they talk about big bang and evolution. And he does on some occasions make snide remarks about how outdated people are that have "old beliefs". But if you can get past that, then its a great series. However I'd say its not for those who are new or weaker in their faith because it might fill your head with ideas that make you question things.
