• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ok everthing quoted comes from the above link. So here goes my questions??

AUTHORITY OF THE CHURCH

The Bible teaches that the rulers in Christ's church have authority which must be obeyed in matters of religion.
Heb. 13:17 - Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief; for that is unprofitable for you.
Matt. 18:17 - And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church; but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
Luke 10:16 - He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me, and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
Matt. 16:18, 19 - And I will give unto thee (Peter) the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatsoever thou (Peter) shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou (Peter) shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Comment: Hence the laws or precepts of the true church are founded upon the same authority as the commandments of God. For the church has authority to act in Christ's Name.

Ok read through this and read the comments, but my question is this. From reading the above, I took it that the church was responsible for your soul, is this true??

OK I don't really wanna do copy and paste and have alot reading to be done here. But the next thing is the infallibilty of the church.

The Bible teaches that the church has Christ always with it and the Holy Ghost always to guide it - not only during the first century but during all future ages.
Matt. 28:20 - Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
John 14:16 - And I will pray the Father and He shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.
Comment: Hence it is an insult to Christ and the Holy Spirit to say that God's Church fell into error and had to be reformed by Luther, Calvin and other men.

Ok if I am remembering history right Luther broke off cause of all the pennace that where having to be paid. Also I do believe during this time the Popes weren't exactly the holiest of men.

So guess my total point is, when did the Catholic church orginate??

So ignore the pastes lol, I need some catholocism history lessons lol?? anyone help me there.

Sorry if scatterbrained, trying to keep son from killing the puppy and compose message at same time.

The Church began in AD 33, with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus built His Church on the rock, Peter, and gave Peter the "Keys to Heaven," making Peter the first Pope, meaning "father."

The Church was for all people, which is the definition of the word Catholic, ie universal. It was first called Catholic in AD 107.

The Reformation started in the mid-1500's and Luther was upset with indulgences being sold, the bad behavior of the Pope, and other abuses of Power.

(Note: Luther had no legitimate gripe against Church theology, it was the behavior of the Church, not its teachings that he had valid complaints against.)

Luther also had OCD which caused him to worry that he couldnt confess enough, so he came up with the idea of "faith alone" and tried to throw James out of the Bible, since it contradicts him.

Then there were other reformations like the one in England, where the murderous King Henry VIII wanted a divorce and he couldnt get one, so he made himself the Pope and started his own church.

It snowballed from there and the divisions continue today.

Does that help at all?

Gwyyn, Peace be with you.

Very briefly, the Church is "responsible" in the sense that it is entrusted and guided to carry on Jesus' teachings. Those teachings guide us to salvation (though they are not the sole means of attaining it). It is up to us individually as to whether or not we listen to and accept what the Church tells us.

The Catholic Church is an Apostolic Church, meaning it traces it's origins directly back to the Apostles.

God Bless and stay safe.
