• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

OK, I may have bipolar. I do admit that. Somebody keeps telling me I have it. Anyways, there are days that I'm "super happy" where I don't have a problem in the world and where I even think I'm cured of depression. Then, the next day I'm super depressed and every problem is on me and it's basically opposite of the day before. Anyways, how do I stop that thinking where I am cured of depression, as I mentioned it on CF a ton and it's starting to embarrass me to see how many times I've been "cured."

If you think you do have Bipolar, and are currently taking medication for depression, I would tell your doctor. Depression medication often makes Bipolar conditions worse. In many cases Bipolar is diagnosed because the depressive side effects are stronger or more common then the "upper" mood (if you know what I mean).

Hope this helps and everything is cool.

Hi Servant :)

I definately hear ya on that one.

I've been diagnosed with cyclic depression. I use to be bipolar, like i'd get so high, i became really sick. I went through the same cycle every day. They reckon bipolar episodes go over a few weeks, but not mine. I've settled down heaps these days, although i believe it's still in the under current, an really stressful events can bring it up again. That's just how my brain works.

If i were you, write when you're happy, write when you're down, and when you're neutral, if u ever are. This will show the extremes of your moods. Then definately see someone decent. Don't rely on other people's diagnoses of you, they are not health professionals. Go to a psychologist or psychiatrist, tell them what's going on, and ask them what they think, and what treatment is available (not necessarily medication, although there's definately nothing wrong with that).

But do trust your gut on this one, you do recognise that something is not right.

Cheers :)

Hi wasabi_cupcake,

I don't do the writing thing because of the risk of people finding it. I used to do that, but then a roommate found that stuff and threatened me to tell people all my personal stuff, and they got mad at me for talking about them in my journal...

I am going to higly disagree with this statement, I happen to have rapid cycling Bipolar disorder. I was diagnosed almost 11 years ago with it. My moods changed on a daily basis and even during the day when I was really stressed. So, It does exist and I think that more research needs to be done before making a statement such as this. I have talked to S4E and I have tried to get him to see a proffesional. Please do some reading on this subject.

I stopped for years because i wrote about some really personal stuff something icky that happened to me as a kid. My sister read it and told everyone in the neighbourhood. The consequences of this were almost fatal, but God's angels protected me. I also wrote stuff about her, not very nice stuff cos we fought like crazy. She's held it all against me since.

But u know what? As it stands now, i'm only accountable to Jesus, and whatever is or isn't exposed to others is always exposed to Jesus. He knows our hearts, and when we stand before Him repentant and cleansed by His blood, what authority to others have to stand on?

Sorry, that was completely besides the point....eeeeee.....

But yeah, if you were to write, it would be very helpful for you and your doctors to monitor those big changes. Do U have a cool hiding spot somewhere? Or maybe u could stick some pages in the middle of a text book and write in them? Kinda like when ur at school and you're reading a book with a magazine inside it?

Do U still live with this bodgy room m8? I hate blackmail with a passion, i think it's so abusive and manipulative. If i were U, i would move straight away, or kick her out. But that's just me. :|

Agreed totally. In the hospital they got to witness me in person. My moods could rapid cycle in as little as 20 minutes. I could go from lying in bed wanting to take the air vent apart so I could c*t w/ the vent parts to being hypomanic, to hallucinating. It's a horrible thing to have to deal with, it's mentally exhausting. Now my cycles are mini, and they last about 2-3 weeks, and I guess that's tolerable in comparison. Topamax has helped me greatly with that.

Topamax and Zonegran... darn it, I *knew* I was forgetting drugs on that drug list I gave that lady... going to edit post now!

I to am a rapid cycler, to a more detailed degree, i am a ultra rapid cycler.

without meds, i cycle every 3-4 days, which makes me a ultra rapid cycler.

Rapid cycling is said to be when a person cycles more than 4 times in any given year.

Another word, I to disagree with the staement "BP's dont cycle every day"

To top it off, rapid cycling makes everything more complicated, even with choice of meds..... Hang in there. and go to a psychiatrist.

ps. SSRI, and some other antidepressants are know to trigger rapic cycling, in people previouly diagnosed with just Major Depression, or Unipolar Depression.

Peace
