• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ok - how do you guys do it?

Seriously...how do you keep your mouths shut on here? I don't get it? I try to be nice and kind and thoughtful and caring and all those wonderful things but sometimes I just get so dang frustrated that I have to let 'er rip.

How do you guys not do that? I don't understand it.

Sometimes I feel like I say everything wrong even when I am trying to be nice...and then there are times I just feel like the stupidity is so thick I can't see through the fog that I have to just point it out.

I don't understand how you guys always say the right thing and always say it kindly.

Any tips?

I just apply the "I can't change the person, but I can change my reaction to the person" mentality. Let's face it, sometimes, people just aren't going to get it. I have to find the humor in the ignorance or it would make me bonkers, too. I'm sure others feel that way about me sometimes, too. :p

Yeah - I get that...I guess I just get so frustrated when I'm trying to have an intelligent conversation/discussion and that can't even happen. I mean what is so wrong with listening to people who are older and because of that have had the opportunity to have more life experiences so may know a few more things...I just get so irritated when I'm treated like I'm an idiot and I just don't get it cause I'm "older". Makes me want to grab some people and shake 'em by the shoulders :p

Maybe you're just too old now and forget what it's like to be young and KNOW EVERYTHING! :p I don't think I learned the recipe for eating crow or humble pie until I was at least 25. :sorry:

I used to let the stupidity get to me, and would let my responses fly too (though I never got reported, so apparently my responses were never THAT bad). Now, I mostly just walk away. And you'll notice I don't really post down there too much, so I've pretty much walked away completely.

I like to think that even though the posts aren't answered or addressed or even condescended, some will *get* what's being said by those with experience. I do think that most will get it, it's just the vocal minority that will pipe in.

Try not to let it bother you too much.

And play up here, in the fellowship area, or in other fellowship threads for a while and you'll feel better. :)

Seriously...how do you keep your mouths shut on here? ...

"Here" in Singleville? I've not been "here" enough for it to be an issue. I'm "here" now 'cause there are few topix of interest in my usual corners of CF.

"Here" in the broader CF? I don't always manage to keep it shut, but to the extent that I do, I find that it helps to be hard-hearted and superficial and not really care about anyone. ;)

Well, I kinda' get mad about 'a dumb post' by a young person, who think they know everything already, and then I just take a break from this site, bny walking away and doing something else for a few days. D, I was sooooo mad about the "divorce" thread!!!!!!!! It really erks me, when a person posts about a subject that they know absolutely NOTHING about, but THEN slams the rest of us that have been thru it, like we weren't smart enuf about the subject and should've done better! Oh no, "but it was just my opinion".

I read something like that, all I can think of is "karma" and that person will "eat those words one day".

Then I need a break from this site for a few days and realize, it's really not all that important, anyway. ;)

yeah, what they said above me...

You can't change someone's mind that already knows everything but you can change someone's mind that knows they don't know or is unsure of what they do.

You can never win them all. But winning when it counts the most is what it is for...there will always be a few...a precious few that hear and recognize the truth when they hear it. For them you tell what you personally know.

The others...let them rage at the wind to see if they can change it's direction. (Something akin to what Solomon said)

Wow - so am I the only one that thinks these young people aren't that different than we were at their ages? :sorry: I thought for sure I had the world figured out and no one was going to tell me any differently. I guess that is why I'm able to look at those posts - even when they originally irk me - and realize that they just don't have enough life experience to tell them any differently.

Now - older people that are ignorant - I'm still working on a plausible excuse that would grant me tolerance on their behalf. :p So far, "Forgive them Father, they know not what they do" is all I've got.

No, you're not the only one.......I used to think just like them too and I was thinking this morning, that I prolly have sooooooo much more to learn!

But, yes, I was once very young and arrogant too. ;)

D - I'm not sure what you were going to say...

But I think you know me well enough by now to know that I don't let negative energy have a place in my life for very long.

I guess I should have stayed out of this thread. :sorry:

I still do stuff that I kick myself for later. I find myself thinking, well this is a different situation, it'll be ok in the end. My mom had taped a program where they were interviewing the mother of Natalie Holloway and either her or her dd had felt a premonition or something about the trip, but they ignored it.

Not too long ago I had an uneasy feeling and actually imagined how a situation was going to go bad if I didn't change some behaviors, but I still couldn't find the strength to make the changes. Gee, it ended up going bad. Coincidence? Maybe, but it should've been an easy choice for me in this situation. We're humans. We're sinful, we're lonely, hurting, etc.

Very true. I've been focusing more this year on "going with my gut" on stuff - b/c all too often, I find ways to justify situations or actions that I know should be different. :sorry:

You posted "n/m" right after my last post.
I'm not sure what you meant by negative energy - are you saying that I'm a negative energy in your life?

All I was going to say in my n/m post was that I remember being that way when I was their age too and I also remember older people trying to talk to me and share their wisdom and I actually did learn to listen...even if it was just out of respect for them because they were older. I wouldn't have treated people older than me with some of the obvious disrespect that they have done...but that just my opinion...

And what good are we really doing the younger generation if we don't try to teach them and share with them from our life experiences...it could save them a lot of the hurt that we have experienced.

Yeah...
Ever been so nervous when you meet someone that you invariably say exactly the wrong thing...you shoulda put your foot in your mouth and just shut up...but you are so nervous that you don't...

I, for some reason keep going there...wish I would stop...but sometimes people say things that are hot button issues for us. I know better but can't seem to do better...

There is one lady I wish I could go back in time to start over and have a do over ...in a few years so that I would lose all of that nervous tension I get when I am around her. Maybe then I could win her heart.

I dunno...it might work...Then again...maybe not.
