I just realized this....I was reading another thread that inspired me to do some calculations concerning my current budget, my fiancee's current budget, and what our budget will be when we get married. The results?

Assuming I don't get any raises, pick up any other jobs, or start working more hours in the next two years, and assuming that my fiancee isn't going to be making anything above minimum wage ($7.50/hour) in the next two years.....

We'll be getting married and living on a budget of at least $30,000 a year for at least the first few years of our lives together. That's insane. Especially considering I'm 18 and she's 17.

Just wait, depending on where you live, $30,000 for two people will soon seem like not enough to live on.

lol, I bet. I think we'll do okay, though. Her family (6 people!) is getting by on about $24k a year right now, and the way I figure, if six people can get by on $24k, two can get by on 30.

That is really wonderful...such a blessing to know that you'll be able to get by financially! My boyfriend and I plan to marry within a year to a year and a half (we aren't officially engaged yet, though), and we will be making just under $20,000/year. Cost of living in my area is quite low, so that accounts for the low income.

It really all depends where you live. When we get married, only I will be working because my then husband will still be working on his master's dergee(s), I'll hopefully be making about 45,000 -50,000 a year. It still undecided whether we will end up living in a big city or a smaller city, it's in God's hands. I pray for a smaller city!!!!

BTW, I can't imagine 6 people living off of 24k, that must be below the poverty line for 6 people? No offense meant, that just seems wild to me.
