I agree. where else can you call soda "pop" and not get made fun of for it.
Where else can you go 5 minutes outside of a city and be in the country?
Where else can it be 30 degrees one day and 80 degrees the next?
Where else can it be 30 and 80 degrees in one day!?

I am from a small town but it has a restauarnt that is well known all over the state ... it's A & W ROOT BEER STAND DRIVE IN !! Sorry to say that we do have CAR HOPS that come to your CAR w/ ROLLER SKATES but they do take your order & bring the MEAL out to your CAR !! So, if you want to hear more of where I am from ... drop on over with a PM & say HELLO or just leave me a note in here & I will return a mesage to you personally. ​

How come some people say we sound like hill billys? When I see people talk on TV they sound like us?

I dont know. When I was on vacation, My dad was talking to some folks. One of the guys he was talking to knew right a way that he was from Ohio. My dad asked how he knew, and he said "cause you got the Ohio twang" hmm..

I can attest to that. I lived in Houston for 15 yrs. I could defenitely tell when I ran into some from Ohio, particularly NE Ohio. Course, that meant family reunion time!!!

I can see the southern people and the new york people can tell we haave accents because i can tell where they are from.
But someone from michigan said we had more southern accents. Theyt dont sound any differnet to me.?

I agree, but somehow we do - Last time I went to Canada the guy at the duty free said "You're either from Ohio or Pennsylvania?" I think we sound like most of Hollywood (movies, tv, commercials, etc.)

My future career deals with speech and just recently I've started to notice various accents and even within ohio we all have our own little quirks in our accent. I can (sometimes) tell ohios weather they are from ne, nw and the rest of the state. We are the best state 'cause we are so small yet so diverse that's what I think

I think you can't hear the differences because we are so used to hearing all of these different accents just within our state... but thats just my 2 cents...

good point. My friends...who live across town from me, once asked me if I grew up in Pennslyvania. ( I didnt....I grew up here) I asked them why and they said I talked like I was from Pennslyvania...

Don't want to mess up this thread with politics but I felt this would be the best place to reach Ohioans!


If anyone receives an e-mail from the AFA (American Family Association) about Sen. Voinovich being for gay marriage DO NOT PASS IT ON! I called his office this morning to let him know how I felt and had trouble getting through because his offices are being swamped with phone calls because of this e-mail. I was told that the e-mail was not correct and that Sen. Voinovich is standing for traditional marriage and is against gay marriage.

I DO NOT WANT TO START A DEBATE ABOUT THIS (OR EVEN A DISCUSSION) BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO LET OHIOANS KNOW.

Hey guys!

Have you heard what happened with the "top thrill dragster" at Cedar Point?? A cable snaped or something...four people had minor injuries. But It is closed for an unknown amount of time Im going back to cedar point on Sunday. That was the only reason I wanted to go.
