My brother has spent thousands of dollars on PC gaming. Maybe as much as ten thousand.

He has his pc hooked up to a 64" high definition, with a 600 watt surround sound.
He bought all the top of the line pc parts, like sound cards, graphics cards, ram, you name it he has it.
The last I heard, he has his pc clocked at over 3.3 gigs.
He cut holes in his tower, to put 7 fans in it.

On top of that, he spent another 4000 or so on his leather couchs.

Plus he has xbox, gamecube, gameboyadvanced, and 2 ps2's!!!!

I was a PC fan. I still am but think console is becoming the way to go. I've got less in my console than I would have to upgrade my video card to compete with my console (XBOX).
If I had a video card and surround sound, I'd have a nice PC set up.
I'll say that the gap between console and PC is rapidly narrowing.

PC all the way. Here are reasons:

  1. Free patches. None of this having to pay for a fix rubbish or not getting one at all.
  2. Mods - Get to download and create a wide assortment of goodies to enhance the re-playability of the game
  3. Nice peripherals - 3d glasses, surround sound, control yokes, etc
  4. Nice peripherals - 3d glasses, surround sound, control yokes, etc
  5. Not restricted by a stupid controller. Give me a mouse and a keyboard for a shooter. Not some stupid little stick..
  6. FPS, RTS, and simulators.
  7. Free on-line play for the games (excluding MMORPGs) non of this pay $150 for the system, $50.00 for the game and more $$$ for the X-box live garbage.
  8. Interoperability of software: My system can run games that came out cklose to ten years ago with minor tweaking. No sense pulling out the another console to run a classic.
  9. More mature level of games: e.g. Soldiers: Heroes of WWII and [/i]Flight Simulator 2004[/i]
  10. Upgradability of PC components
  11. Not tied to the infernal TV. If you home has limited TVs and the majority wishes to watch something retarded, no problem. Retire to the computer, break out the headphones and enjoy.
  12. No PC - no console

I seriously dig my XBox but I had to vote PC. The XBox is my first console since NES so I don't have much experience with them to critique games but it seems there is a lack of the kind of games I really enjoy. I'm a heavy RPG gamer and the only 2 I've played so far on XBox that qualified as RPG in the PC definition were Morrowind and KotOR.

I'm not knocking console games as I'm having fun with some of them but when I feel like a good RPG fix it's much easier to find what suits my mood on the PC. Although I will definately be parked in my recliner when Fable releases. :D

PC games had always had the best multiplayer, but I can't say I have enjoyed any PC games thoroughly in multiplayer in recent times. After Quake II I haven't enjoyed any multiplay experiences other than maybe Starcraft and Rogue Spear. Console multiplay just has so much more atmosphere; having 3 other people actually in the room with you adds so much more. N64 was the most complete console experience ever.

As far as singleplayer goes, PC used to be the way to go, but consoles are catching up. It wasn't that long ago that PC games used to be so much bigger due to CD vs. cartridge scenarios, but that era is gone. Prettier specs on PC's aren't exactly my idea of impressive either. At the moment, Consoles would be my choice, but not for their singleplayer experience...

I say PC is better soloing for now except in sports. But Sadly PC is losing more ground to consoles every round. The next console war will start next year closing the gap between console and PC even farther

Piracy is a lot harder on consoles than on PC.IMHO this fact alone will cause more games going to consoles.

I'd have to say console. No worry about lag or computer failure. Just pure gaming!

Yeah, all you gotta worry about are all the Dirty Disc Errors and other console hardware failures. Also, 1st-edition consoles tend to have trouble with newer games (I've heard a lot of it happening with PS2 and Xbox) ^_^
