Ferndale was also the town in the movie Outbreak. It is a quaint little town that is or was rather eclectic in its tastes with a mixture of old and new. for a small town, theres things to see and do there (theres even a stage theater production where you can watch a live showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show!).

I grew up on Eureka and been to ferndale many times. use to own a mobile home in Loleta up the road from Fernbridge. The last salmon I caught before I left Humboldt County for good in was in '83 under Fernbridge where it crosses the Eel River.

dont mind me - just reminiscin some.

but take the time to head west out of town and take the curvy road to the coast - beautiful countryside.

I'm back! It was a very nice trip. We flew into Arcata/Eureka and on our way to Ferndale stopped in downtown Eureka and had a nice lunch at a small cafe. I forgot the name, but they have the Comedy and Tragedy masks on place settings for the patrons to color and a lot of the artwork ends up on the walls. We stayed in a nice cottage at the end of a street behind the Ferndale Library.

Some highlights:

Small town Memorial day parade.

The Kenetic race turned the quite town of Frendale into a crazy and funny affair on Memorial Day.

Rafting down the Trinity River.

Toured the Mystery of the Trees.

On a day with nothing planned we drove to all the surrounding areas. I do not remember seeing Bellingham tns, but we did visited Scotia, Fortuna, and the oh-my-goodness-is-it-little town of Loleta. There we toured the cheese factory and had a drink at the corner bar with some very nice and friendly folks. We did make it out to Centerville Beach justanobserver. It was a great drive. My wife was hoping a whale would come out of the water and kiss her check, but that didn't happen.

Anyway, I am glad to be back. Really! I'd love to visit all the small town of the world, but I'll never want to stay. As Foghat put it "I'm a Fool for the City"

God Bless!

I live in Bellingham, near Ferndale
As you've probably discovered the thread is abour Ferndale, California near Eureka on the north coast. You live in NW Washington near the Canadian border. Both Lovely areas but two different Ferndales.

oops, thanks Revrobor, for the clarification! Maybe I'll get the chance to visit the other Ferndale someday.

Take care and God bless,

Cathy
