  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

of the end ..

If the biblical 'end times' is not 'ever' happening in near future , for one thing, you have to deny or rewrite the verses in the bible [ not if you think bible's nothing then ]..1st Timothy 4 and 2nd Timothy 3 etc . AND how do you explain the moral compromises that are moral issues in the world and the USA, especially today ? .There will be not a 'utopia' I'm afraid created by human beings [it will never happen or last long ] .If you Do not believe in God you got nothing to hope in a utopia, simply. Only God can accomplish a true utopia created by his hands ,without human efforts/ religion in of otself won't do it too. If you do not believe in heaven then forget about that idea. If there is no real resurrection our lives as Christians are a waste of time the bible says too ,1 Corinthians 15. Sorry I had to say something in here. If the world goes on the same for a 1000 years or more no social remedies likely will save the day or temporary ones. When nuclear war hits that might cause many of us to wake up that something is here .I say that because it just takes one to push a button.

How do we know it "isn't 'ever' happening in the near future"? I don't know when, and neither do you unless God has told you something the rest of us aren't in on.

I agree that human attempts at utopia always fail. However, it does not follow that reasonable attempts to improve conditions always fail, even if attempts to achieve perfection do.

How do I explain humans not being morally perfect? I thought the Fall covered that one.

Like the others who have replied so far, I'm not sure what your point is.

Ironically, as more people mock the near coming of Christ as the days go by, more and more we see the following prophecy fulfilled:

First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ He promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
(2 Peter 3:3-4)

Also, false prophets are rampant in these days, which is yet another sign that we are drawing very close to the end:

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping...

Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord. But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood! They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness. But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey—an animal without speech—who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness. These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”
(2 Peter 2:1-3, 10-19)

And we also see more and more of the following:

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.
(2 Timothy 3:1-9)

Clear signs of the end times are already showing and more will show as darkness looms on this sin-warped world. If the apostles warned the disciple of Jesus at that time to be sober-minded and alert, how much more ought we be sober-minded and alert two thousand years later today? Sadly, for many believers, the day of Lord's coming will be like a thief to them, and they will be horrified that they will hear from the Lord saying to them: "I never knew you."

It's time to wake up to the dire warnings in the Word and start preparing our hearts, minds and souls for the Lord's coming. Not knowing the hour and day is not an excuse for any of us to start being complacent and going back into the world's pleasures. I myself need to start being sober-minded again, but I also hope that the brethren here would also start repenting to God and become sober-minded. May our God have mercy on us and wake us up from our slumber.
