  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Relationship wise, I have very fews flaws, thanks to an unhealthy dependency on dating and relationship books for the past 8 years!

If I had to say one thing might make me single...it's that I am too picky.

you got me thinking what you said here about myself.

i'm wondering if i'm single because i haven't been picky.

seriously, thank you for making me re-think there.

I like who I am :) I have critiques of course! Lots, in fact. but hey... we're all works in progress..

1) Physically: I'm overweight. I think It's okay if you don't mind, but I have problems thinking guys will ever be attracted to me. Oh, and I developed acne on my face in my 20s and it's not something I like one bit.

2) I sometimes want all the benefits without all the work. I think my work ethic needs an overhaul. I can be slothful and that's no good.

3) I'm not Susie Homemaker here. I don't cook much at all; I hate washing dishes and doing laundry; and even though I'm willing to do those things, I just don't want to spend my life being a homemaker.

4) Oh yeah, I don't exactly daydream of staying at home all my life. I might be persuaded by God to think differently once kids come (God willing). I got my education and a good job for a reason. I like following my dreams. I actually enjoy having a career. It allows me to finance other things more important in life like ministry, service, hobbies...

5) I have had depression since I was young and have been through therapy and meds at different times in life. I don't mind this, but some people pin depression into a corner and I just don't belong in a corner :) I have a hard time with stress, but God is good and is helping me there.

6) I'm independent. I am a free, powerful, passionate person who wants so much to share life with someone, but doesn't need to have a SO to enjoy life fully. I value my personal space and I don't really like clingy people. We all have our moments though!

Things I don't like about myself

a) I probably don't have the best history of tact and patience.
b) I'm mellow in normal life but when I get ticked off over something I can get irritated and not think enough before I speak
c) I can also wonder round too much in my own world sometimes and accidently tread on peoples toes.
d) I can swing between too confident and not enough.
e) I get intense about things and have been accused on more then one occasion of being the proverbial bull in the china shop
e) I can expect everyone else to know what I know for some weird reason and get impatient.

other then that -
- I haven't travelled much
- Haven't seen many dreams come true yet so I wouldn't be happy just settling down to a mortgage and family because the guy had already done most of his. We'd need to be on the same page.
- I'm also not wired to just be a housewife. I want to get married and have a family and my family would always come first, but I also have a calling and I need a husband who'll support me in that same as I'll support him in his, so I'd need a guy who'd be happy with that.
- I would like to be a lot more social then I am. I can be too introverted.
- I can overanaylise things
- I expect a lot of myself so I can expect the same of others, even though they're totally different people and seeking different things.
- oh and did I mention bossyness :p

So yeah, anyone who doesn't like strongwilled and intense people, would probably not want to marry someone like me.

hmmmm

I'm really really really shy. Not only am i shy, I am very quiet when i first meet people. I often get tongue tied and I don't like being in crowds or having lots of people giving me attention. I enjoy talking with a small group of people or one on one. I don't initate conversation with people i don't really know- it makes me very nervous. This is something i've been working on for quite a while now. I'm much better, but cute guys that i'm attracted to make me regress.

I've been hurt by someone I really loved. I find it hard to trust again and to take the risk again, even though human love is one of my top desires.

I have an odd sense of humour. Most people don't get me or think i'm just being stupid. I can have an edge of sarcasm.

Physical aspects- I have a certian feature that people notice and even if they arent being malicious, a lot of people comment on it. It makes me self concious and feel terribily unpretty.

I'm not a big "go getter". I'm not all about having a career and making tons of money and wearing power suits. I'm not against working, and certianly will, but i'm not interested in it being my top earthly priority or for it to consume my life now or my future. I want a family and I want to get married and love/ be a partner to my husband. I want to know how to support him emotionally and be a wonderful wife to him. I want to raise children in a godly home. I think this makes guys nervous.

- I tend to change my mind about things all the time :)
- I am not good in making decisions (I guess I need a man who knows what´s best for me then :)
- When I´m happy the smallest negative happenings can make me grumpy (that´s annoying for others - I know... but I can´t help it)
- to be balanced I need a lot of time on my own (not understandable
for everyone)
- I am a bit of a dreamer. I want everything to be perfect.. well, people aren´t. I´m not. However, I am looking for the perfect man (perfect to me), the perfect situation, the perfect time... (makes it kinda hard to be successful)
- I really don´t know if I ever want children! you know, these decisiouns...

hmm.. at the moment I can´t think of more things that would scare guys off...

1. I have OCD. However, I have gone a month and a half without most of my obsessions and compulsions, so I'm kind of beating it :) . Stress may make me "relapse," so to speak, though.
2. I'm overweight
3. I have a child-sized lymphatic system, so my limbs sometimes swell and my immune system isn't that great.
4. My room is messy:p
5. My father has emotionally abused me my entire life, so I might have some issues as a result. However, I think the experience has made me a better and stronger person, because I know what to avoid in a future spouse and I know that I'll never let my future children suffer like I did. I just need someone to build that nice family with....
6. I tend to worry a lot, but I'm working on that.

{In response to the list I posted, Annova said:}

Well I can see why you have some trouble. You come off as someone who has very low self-esteem.

Have you considered trying to change some of these?

I have tried to change many of them, and am in the process of doing so. As for a low self-esteem, that's extremely true given the fact that no woman I can think of dreams of her "Knight in Shining Armor" and has him limping along or walking pigeon-toed.

For me, it's probably:

1) Looks, sure this is a common one for a lot of people. I am actually underweight, and this can make a person look as bad or worse than being overweight. So I look pretty spindly in person since I'm very tall and skinny. I don't actually mind the way my face looks, but I've always wanted to weigh more. I will say that no matter what you look like physically, there is definitely someone out there in the world who looks as bad or worse than you do but has managed to find their soulmate all the same, so never write yourself off just based on your looks.

2) My interests are somewhat narrow in scope, limited to writing/playing/listening to music, doing karate, singing, watching tv/movies, and reading. So I don't do tons of outdoor stuff, which is what most women want. But I'm willing and desiring to change on this, so I don't see it as that big a deal.

3) I'm still somewhat childish in how I conduct my life, I need to start dressing better I think and being a lot more responsible with keeping my apartment and other places clean. Basically I need to act like a man more, and I know people will treat me as such.

4) I'm not as spiritually deep or as much of a natural leader as I should be. I think Christian women want strong men who will help lead them in their walk with the Lord, and the very least to be the head of the relationship (your doctrinal mileage may vary!). So this is an issue where I need to and am trying to change.

I am hopeful. More than ever before I'm able to see myself as worthy of being with someone good, a godly woman who will love me as much as I love her.

Excellent question

For me:
*Being overweight
*Very quiet - I have trouble initiating conversation
*I mostly prefer my own company
*I definitely don't want kids
*I prefer the company of animals than that of other people
*I often judge too quickly
*I can take things too personally
*I have a tendancy to be a perfectionist
*I enjoy my freedom as a single person
*Even though I grew up in a house free from it, I'm terrified at the thought of domestic violence
*I'm scared of being intimate with someone

some may consider this a flaw:

when a relationship ends, even on a good note, everything else ends. friendship isn't worth flirting with failure in my opinion.

so sometimes i wonder if it is best that women know this about me before getting involved. not meaning for it to be a controlling sense, but i do plan on with whoever i get into a relationship with again, when we get talking about the dreaded "ex" topic(you know the conversation that you really know you shouldn't talk about but you just have to conversation) to mention that i am not friends with any of my ex's for the most part and that i don't hang out or talk to them that much(there have been a few times for a short season i have, but then i always end up going back to who i am) and i hope she realizes there is nothing special about her for me to not to do the same if it ends with her(i hope this isn't taken as a slight to whoever i'll be in a relationship with next.)

1. Looks as I am not the model kind
2. I share some stuff in common about the NFL
3. But really get along more with women than men. Sorry men don't take offense to that
4. Shy, quiet and soft-spoken
5. But once you get to know me, I can be the life of the party
6. Not used to crowds that much
