• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

well i was raised as a fundamentalist but i no longer am one ..I think its not discussed because there is a natural aversion that they they have to avoid all things secular and ocd is a secular identification ...Also it is cultural because if you are in the american south and you are raised in an old school fashion there are certain things you just dont talk about and mental illness was one ..My great grandfather shot himself before hand he displayed symptoms of psychosis ...according to his daughter in law my grandmother ..could he have been helped back then ...somewhat ..yes ..but he was raised im very sure to be self reliant ...strong silent and keep youre emotions to yourself ...im not saying anyone could have saved him but i wonder ..

HI Kicker,
I've actually had the opportunity to speak publicly in a Southern Baptist Church about my disorder. For the most part it was well recieved but there were, of course a few folk who mocked me or tried to blame my disorder on my inability to trust God.
I attend a very large Baptist Church and my Pastor knows about my disorder. He has acknowledged the reality and validity of mental disorders from the pulpit and encouraged the congregation to support folk who suffer from them. I thank God for his compassion and understanding.
So be encouraged, not all Baptist churches lack an understanding about mental disorders although at this point I'm sure there are many more who don't understand it than do.
God Bless,
Mitzi

Hey I'm a fundamental baptist and I was wondering if there were any other baptists on the forum and do you find yourself sometimes looked down on by other baptists if you have mental health issues? Being a baptist has made accepting ocd harder I think.
