• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Thanks to everyone who shares in this forum...it really is a blessing. If I would try to explain myself to a person without OCD, they can't relate and they don't get it. They just say "So you had a bad thought...Big deal...just forget about it and ask forgiveness." Man, if only it was that easy for us! It feels like a crisis every time. It truly does reveal though that OCD is an anxiety disorder that needs to be treated. I am glad I am finally coming to the understanding that it is a disorder and not the result of "constant demonic oppression." No doubt that may contribute at times, but it cannot always be about demons saying things in your mind right? The brain holds on to thoughts b/c of fear not because the devil is always speaking in my head right? It's hard to distinguish and a lot of people say it is only the devil putting thoughts in your head...What does everybody else think about this? It helps to hear from OCD sufferers and not others who can't relate.

Oh boy!

I had a dear pastor with the best intentions tell me this before I knew it was ocd. So, I fasted, prayed incessantly, but felt I was losing and the idea came to me that I was becoming possessed. It was the worst.

The more you think it's the devil, the more you will fear, and feed your ocd, which is based on fears. As Christians we have no need for the devil, he's a loser and has no power over us. Continue to treat your ocd and see what the "devil" says then....

In Christ,

Marc

I like to read the Psalms especially David's, he often refers to his enemies and asks God to have Mercy on him and save him from his ememies. I think of OCD thoughts like your enemies and as each thought came in I asked God to take away the enemie thought.. Once I separated the thoughts as enemie thoughts I found it helped. Everyone is different, but just thought I might mention in case it helped you. Another thing is that we Christians are all going to Heaven and the only way that Satan can attack us is by making us fearful here on earth (making our lives Hell on Earth) so if you can see it as just him trying to make us fearful that helps also From what I understand as Christians we can' be possessed by our ememie but we can be opressed. We have nothing to fear.

This quote could not be any more accurate. Reading this brought a sincere smile to face..something that has been hard for me to come by recently. Thank you for your accurate and humorous approach to the subject!
