• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together.   • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I have been reading some of the threads here and I see alot of people talking about going into remission, or OCD coming and going. What causes that and why or how do you go into remission? Especially the religious kind which is what I think I have.

Good question,

I think different things effect different people. Things like stress and really bad events in life can kick it back.

Mine was more on a cycle. For 2 weeks ill have this problem/obsession/blasphemy than ill be ok for 2 days and BAM welcome to something different.

I was fine(wasnt bad) for a month or two now its getting bad again.. Its been the longest yet.. I really thought I was healed.:(

Can you say big disappointment? Oh well.. Life moves on.

Perhaps its different for other folks, lets hear what gets them :holy:

My doctor said that extreme stress can get that part of the brain to firing a lot if you struggle against OCD, just like Jay said above.

With me, sometimes just different ideas trigger it. I also find that times in my life where I keep busy, keep occupied, it seems to minimize it. Less time to obsess I guess because my mind is occupied with other issues if that makes sense.
