• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Greetings,
I’m in the process of writing devotionals and I was in middle of writing the final one, when a thought came into my mind, “Will I give up my salvation in order to continue working on this devotional?”
Well, given that the deadline was coming up and I just wanted to get it over with, I think I might have answered “Yes”. The truth is (at least looking back now—not sure if I really meant what I chose at that moment) I don’t want to lose my salvation. I definitely hope I didn’t.
It just seems each time I work on this task given to me, my OCD acts up. I know, I’ve posted before on this forum regarding this subject matter.
But I just need to ask, you know: Did I lose my salvation?
Is posting this okay?

No you did not lose your salvation, the scripture is very clear on this matter that if you belong to God he will finish the work that he started in you.

If you were able to lose your salvation then God could not say that he would finish the work that he began in you.

You have asked this question a few different times now, and our answer is the same. You are mistaking fleeting thoughts, feelings, and fears for some sort of rejection of your salvation.Again, as I think I mentioned before, I fell for the same trap. You obviously want to be saved, and you obviously want to get those devotionals done. Your OCD, though, comes in to give you grief, pitting the two things against each other.I think you should try to resist asking this same question again, not because we're getting sick of you or anything, but because this seems to be a compulsion for you. The best way to handle it is to simply finish the devotionals, and when those thoughts come into your head, don't fret about them, overanalyze them, and try to determine whether you really are still saved. Just let the thought float around in your head without passing any judegements. Whatever happens, happens, but you need to defeat this so that you can think more clearly and get your work done! :)

No you didn't and the simple fact of it all is that YOU asked yourself that question. If you really wanted to give up your salvation...Would you question yourself? Would you doubt something that you really didn't want? God knows that we're human, that we have fragile minds (and that's for everyone...with normal minds...sorry :) ) but we with OCD that have a "broken mind"...we are even more fragile. I think what OCD does for people like us, is make us "lean on him" even more...(sigh)

Extreme spiritual fearfulness (over blasphemy & going to hell) & doubting (even while you are pursing God, reading his word, and in prayer)are forms of spiritual OCD. They and other racing negative fearful thoughts are the result of a vitamin deficiency which causes a chemical imbalance in the brain and is treatable with extreme daily doses of vitamines. If you or a loved one experience extreme spiritual fearfulness, OCD or schizophrenia tendancies (paranoia, visual hallucinations, hearing voices), depression, insomnia, racing thoughts, panic attacks, anxiety, other mental distresses, do yourself a favor and reasearch depression, schizophrenia, OCD vitamin and orthomolecular therapy and the work of a canadian doctor named Abram Hoffer. Basically he developed a treatment (that truly WORKS) with Vitamines. It's a minimal cost to incur to invest in your physical and mental AND SPIRITUAL wellness. I am not peddling anyone's vitamines. You can get any brand at Walmart or a grocery store or a vitamine store on line. These Vitamin supplements have been a tremendous help to my relative and myself who continue to experience greater and greater healing each day that we continue with this vitamine therapy. Relief comes within the first couple of days and continues as you continue to take the vitamine supplements. You must take them for the rest of your life or risk a relapse.

1000 mg niacian daily (get a combination of flush-free and regular niacin) the regular will cause you to flush--(you will get red and hot but this means it is working--the longer it takes you to flush the more you needed it. the redness goes away in about 15 minutes. The flush-free niacin will not make you flush. If you start to feel nauceaous, lower the dosage or skip a day altogether with it, then take a "normal" dosage, like 100-500 mg. An extremely high dose like 1000-2000 is for when things get extremely uncontrollable and it should only be temporary. It's too much to take regularly. After a day or two you could start to feel naucious from that much, but it will jumpstart the seratonin in your brain to help you relax and control your thoughts, then you can lower it to 500.

2000-3000 mg Vitamine C take 1000 mg 3x a day
HTP5 - At least 100 mg daily
Vitamine B 8 - (inisitol) - 10-18g per day depending on severity of your OCD (it's alot but take it)
Vitamine B combo vitamine 2 or 3 per day (with B1, B6, B12)

Essential Omega Fats (with fish oil and flax) take 2-3 per day.

Results will be notable within a day or two, with the greatest results starting at around 6 weeks of taking these.

Swear off all junk food, all artificial sweetners, all refined white sugar products, all alcohol, eat GOOD NUTRITIOUS FOOD, fresh and frozen vegetables, fruits, unsweetned fruit juice, filtered water or spring water, cut down on caffeine. Going gluetin free is also good but it's not necessary for ever

Please research these things on line yourself as I am not allowed to post URLs on this site. I would have

Please, also understand that you must honor Jesus Christ and trust his shed blood and ressurection fully for salvation. Read the word daily and pray, and live according to biblical principals and this along with proper nutrition, will eliminate spiritual OCD and extreme spiritual fearfulness

Hermit,
I feel like I need to share something....an encouraging reminder with you. I understand what OCD is like. But I hope that maybe I can give you something to consider that might turn into breeding ground for you to dig in your heels and say no to your worst fear (which I gather, from reading your posts, is losing your salvation). Perhaps you might consider doing a Biblical study on the nature of salvation. The work of our salvation is TOTALLY, 100% COMPLETELY up to Christ. Completely. You are NOT saved because you hold onto your salvation. If salvation depends on our effort, none of us can be saved. If it's up to you to hold onto your salvation, then your salvation becomes a work of your own, not a work of God's. If it's up to you to retain your salvation, you might as well give up now because you can't do it. I can't do it. None of us can do it. You might as well embrace your inability because the Gospel is about just that. Our inability to get ourselves into heaven. Did you save yourself? Of course not! God did! So on whom do you think the burden rests for retention of that salvation? God! Salvation is about rejoicing in the freedom from relying on our own efforts. It sounds like you are still relying on those efforts and it's making you miserable. I can tell from your posts that you believe and have a strong faith. There you go. That's all that's needed. You're saved. The end. It's God's work...not yours!

Now you may be reading this and being like "yes I know but...." Know that I am not trying to write off your turmoil and OCD. I know all too well what it's like to try and find a loophole in what SHOULD give us relief; a reason why our fear/anxiety IS legit and valid. But I do find that in my experience, it is only unconquerable when there is no solid fact or ground to stand on. If there is a FACT that stands in direct opposition to my obsession/fear, I can begin to rely on that fact and use it as a shield against the anxiety. I can dig in my heels because of the reliability of that fact. My hope for you is that you can find solid ground in this FACT from the Bible. I suggest the book "The Gospel for Real Life" by Jerry Bridges. It's a great reminder about, not just the message of the Gospel for unbelievers, but what it means for us once we are already saved! Rest in the solid fact of the Gospel - your salvation is not due to your own work, but His. You are carrying around the burden of responsibility for your atonement. Christ has taken that burden. You are not subject to it. Know that. Peace and prayers to you!
