Do you think, as a whole, Christianity is far to taken with signs and wonders, and miracles?

let me first state that no, I do not deny the miraculous, I know they happen. However, There are literally millions of reports of the miraculous. Some minor, some major, some that appear to have no purpose, some that do, some that might make some sense, some completely devoid of reason.

Do you think we are far to quick to see an angel behind every bush, a demon under every rock, and a miracle at the end of every event?

I'm not here to argue the existance of miracles, I just want opinion on the matter.

Greetings. I am more interested in those "signs and wonders" in Revelation

Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before of to come of Day of YHWH, the great and the being feared. [Reve 6:12]

Reve 6:12 And I saw when it opens the seal, the sixth, and a quaking, great, became. And the sun became black as sackcloth, hairy.
And the moon, whole, became as blood. [Joel 2:31]

This is appears to be the Sign of Jonah?

Reve 12:1-5 appears to be symbolizing the Sign of Jonah?

Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

Revelation 12:1 And a Sign great was seen in the heaven. A Woman.............5 And she brought forth a Son, Male who is being about to be shepherding all the nations in club iron. And is taken-away/hrpasqh <726> (5681) the offspring/teknon <5043> of her toward the God and toward the throne of Him.

I believe there are perhaps pockets that are too taken with signs & wonders . . . some of those pockets are very large. I used to be a part of the A/G movement and they have an annual signs and wonders conference. I attended one of them. Interestingly enough, no signs or wonders occurred. Go figure.

I'm of the belief that we American Christians rarely put ourselves in any kind of circumstance where we would need a sign or a wonder. We live safe, respectable, lives and attend safe, respectable churches. I have a feeling God reserves such signs and wonders for people in the trenches and on the frontlines.

go cards

No, Rev 12 is the sign given by Isaiah

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

That also sounds ok with me.

What about Micah 5?

That is how they knew Jesus would be born in Bethlehem, Matt 2
Indeed Jesus would be birthed as Micah says and we can apply it to Rev 12 also.
But the sign in Isaiah would be the best fit IMO for Rev 12. Both verses specifically use the word sign. Micah doesn't.

Ok thanks. A lot of Revelation can be haromonized with Isaiah......

Reve 14:18 And another messenger came out of the altar having authority upon the fire, and he sounds a voice great, to the one having the sickle, the sharp, saying: "Send! of thee the sickle, the sharp/keen, and pick! the clusters of the Vine/ampelou of the land, that ripe the grapes of her.
19 And did cast the messenger the sickle of him into the land, and picks the Vine/ampelon of the land. And he did cast into the winepress of the fury of the God, the great. [Isaiah 5/Joel 3:13/Matt 13]

Frankly, it depends on whether or not you are the one needing the miracle. The blind person wants to see. The person dying from cancer wants to be healed. The missionary in the bush needs a miracle to cross the croc infested river. etc.

And it seems maybe the writers of the NT were obsesed with signs, wonders, and miracles too. The 4 Gospels record many of the signs and wonders that Jesus did. Acts too records many signs and wonders. And of course, Paul says that the supernatural manifestations of the Spirit are distributed throughout the Body of Christ both for the edification of the Body and for the conviction and salvation of those who do not know Christ, verifying the Gospel.

So I don't believe that we're too obsessed with signs, wonders, and miracles. If anything, far too many in the church haven't even experienced such, and many don't even believe that such is for today, much less do they operate in the supernatural manifestations of the Spirit!

Hi, UB.

I think it's not so much that we look too much for signs and wonders, as to what sort of signs and wonders we're looking for, and where/how we're looking for them.

If we're looking for the face of our Lord in a tortilla, or for angels to show themselves to us (though that may happen - and it may just as likely be a demon looking like an angel), I think the real "signs and wonders" are the battles going on around us every moment between the demons and angels that we do not see.

I believe that some do.. Yes.. Just as when Christ walked the earth.. They were always asking Him what sign or miracle will you do so that we may believe.. I have had many signs and wonders and miracles in my life with Christ not because I was looking for them but because that is Who He is. :) But when we take our eyes off of Christ and start seeking the signs and wonders then that is when I think some err..

I agree that there seems to be a growing segment of Christianity looking for signs and wonders. I worry that some of these people are so busy looking to the clouds for Christ or behind every bush for the devil that they fail to see the work that needs to be done right at their own doorstep - the people who need to be told about Christ or given a hand over a rough spot. There is much to be done here and that should be what we are looking to.
