Its impossible to please God without being obedient to Him? What is faith, without obedience? "Its not faith at all!"
Heb.5:9, "And being made perfect, He (Jesus) became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that OBEY Him."
Are you disobedient, yet talk and pray to God? Do you cry out, "Lord. Lord," and yet do not hear Him? Do you praise the Lord with your lips, but not with your heart?
Jesus called out to a dead man named Lazarus:
John 11:43, "Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth."
God spoke to the creation, "Let there be light," "Let the earth bring forth living creatures," and at the sound of His voice, creation itself obeyed. Dead men, nature, devils, all obeys their Creator, but men, women, Ahhh, not so much!
Jesus spoke to a fig tree, to death, hell, to the seas, all obeyed His voice.
1 John 2:17, "And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God (obeys God) abideth for ever."
That's a very clear message isn't it? John 11:26, "Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."
Is God fair? Adam disobeyed once, look at the results! Moses disobeyed, sticking the rock twice; not as God had instructed him. Results? Moses could not enter the promised land. Scriptures are filled with what we would call trivial matters of disobedience, yet each brought on a tragic result.
Don't go before the Lord on that judgement day saying to yourself, "If I had only obeyed!" Its your life that's at stake. There are those who think God is hard because He punishes disobedience. And why not? obedience is a matter of the heart, and that's all God desires from us. Not feeling, or joining a church, or tithing, its obedience.
Many would rather bring a gift of some sort to God's altar; but surely not themselves. God is not interested in the material things of this world; its you He's calling out to.
What if we had an unjust, unloving God? Lets say He threatened us and said, "If you don't obey me, I will cut off you oxygen supply every other minute of the day." Hmmm, I have no doubt the world would come to its knees quickly; maybe reluctantly, but it would come. But this is not the way of our Lord. He desires our love and obedience.
For many of us, we continue to stumble over our pride when it comes to asking, "Forgive me Lord for my failures."
As an adult, do you look in the mirror and see a person having the attitude of a stubborn child? Wa! Wa! I won't/can't tell you Lord that I'm sorry, Bo-Hoo!"
Obedience is like eating and drinking. No person can do it for you. Jesus Christ wants people He can trust. He want's those who will do His will without asking questions. When He finds people like this, they have the power of heaven, and earth behind them. But few find it.
The N.T. if filled with examples of obedience. 10 lepers came to Jesus. He told them to go and show themselves to the priest. Without questions, they went, and were healed. Many forget; it was these same priests that had sent these Lepers away from their families. In their minds they could have said no, "Why should we go back to them?" But they obeyed, and were healed.
What if your children only went to school when they felt like it? or you went to work only if you were up to it? Results? an uneducated, and very poor family. "My sheep hear my voice." Be sure its the Lord speaking to you, and not your own personal desires.
Eternal salvation lies in the giving of your heart to Jesus Christ. Its here, its now. Make a decision for our resurrected Lord today. Its no mystery; you don't need to read a library full of books; only to make the right decision for God. They will be the best decisions you ever made, and the greatest moments you will ever experience.
