  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One thing with science, is they have shown us a limited amount of power in some of the weapons of destruction they have come up with. As Christians, we know that there is nothing more powerful than the Blood of Jesus. Bombs can destroy, but the power of God can give life. Even God can raise people from the dead and give us eternal life. Science has nothing to compare with that.

If we want to know the power of God, then we have to learn to be obedient to God. There is power for healing and miracles, but God can only use people who are willing to live in obedience to Him. So, obedience is the key that opens the door to all of what God wants and has for us. But for those who do not want to live in obedience. Who want to continue to go in their own way. They should not expect to receive anything from God. They will call out in their time of need, but He will not be there for them. Becasue they did not learn to listen to the voice of God to do all that He requested and even commanded them to do.

1 John 5:3  For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

First, you still seem to think that science is a worldview.  It's not. How many times do we have to tell you that? Science is not an alternative to theism.  If you want that alternative, you have to go to atheism.  You want to argue atheism, then go ahead.  But trying to argue this way for theism is simply silly and counterproductive.

BTW, ever hear of resusitation?  Science has given us technologies and techniques to bring back to life people who in earlier times would have been considered dead.

Weapons have been around long before modern science.  And they have been used by theists to kill other theists.  The Thirty Years War between Christians turned Germany into a wasteland.  The Patriarch of Rome rose to his present stature in Christianity because Donatists beat the Patriarch of Antioch to death with olive staves for giving the "wrong" answer about Christology.

John, you are simply barking up the wrong tree.  Scientists in general and evolutionists in particular are not all atheists. Doubt me? Read Finding Darwin's God by Kenneth Miller.  Be sure to read chapters 6 and 7.

If we want to know the power of God, then we have to learn to be obedient to God.

The issue isn't whether to be obedient to God. The issue is whether we should obey a bunch of power-mad people who call themselves  Christians but want us to listen to them and not to the evidence God left in Creation.

"To conclude, therefore, let no man out of a weak conceit of sobriety, or an ill-applied moderation, think or maintain, that a man can search too far or be too well studied in the book of God's word, or in the book of God's works; divinity or philosophy; but rather let men endeavour an endless progress or proficience in both."  Bacon: Advancement of Learning

"This vanity some of the moderns have with extreme levity indulged so far as to attempt to found a system of natural philosophy [science] on the first chapters of Genesis, on the book of Job, and other parts of the sacred writings ... because from this unwholesome mixture of things human and divine there arises not only a fantastic philosophy [science] but also an heretical religion." Francis Bacon, Novum Organum, 1xiv

Christianity has chosen not to listen to the heretics known as creationists.

John said "With science, they have shownus a limited amount of power"...

He never said that science was bad!

Where do you honestly think man has gotten his intelligence from?
