After all the ranting and indignation over Wright saying /repeating/ 9E was chickens roosting there isnt a single response now that it's been proven he wasnt the first one to say? Are you kidding? This is the integrity level we have?

Diehappy, it is not insanity to say we should leave iraq. The Pent Comm study stated point blank our military is at best inadequate and at worst the cause of violence. To think we can force 'demoncracy' by propping up an Islamic theocracy in a nation that has been secular for fifty years is insane. We cant decide for the people of Iraq. That isnt freedom, it's freedom imprisoned.

The shameless and unbelievably blind charges of calling Wright a racist and ignorant pastor over and over and over only helps reveal how desperate the situation has become to slam obama. Why is it some of the same camps that deny the problems of racism are also the first ones to label any minority who speaks out against racism a racist? When the Wright well runs dry what will be next? Obama puts too much syrup on his waffles so he's wasteful of resources and has no respect for Aunt Jemima?

I want something relevant to justify the fear, is that too much to ask? He said they had a relationship that has been a spiritual relationship, and it's from his Sermon on hope where he got the title. You should read it, it's pretty darn good. Moreover Obama picked him to be one of more than 50 Pastors to his Spritiual advisory committee as a honorary position. So you are half right, but the conflation noted.

Most Christians talk about being called to Christ, and despite Obama denouncing the statements you and other for some odd reason think it important for Obama to throw his spiritual messenger under the bus. Christians are indeed an odd bunch specially those who so deeply place conservative politics over the essense of Christ.

Your blurb Walls provided no quantified argument. I asked you if you could provide it from you non link source, and you provided the same as your previous arguments: zilch. But rather more wash, rinse, repeat, and assertions of Obama remarks but none provided.

We can have this converstation, but statements that are not based in actual facts is kind of a wanting argument. Of course. To repeat facts I have stated before here, black racism exists and it exists, as far as I can discern, as a reaction to hundreds of years of the most brutal racism directed toward blacks by whites that could be imagined.

I won't go into the slavery and segregation issue, but that is the basis of the paranoia that blacks many times display regarding the "white power structure", which happens to be real. The disruption and unhappiness caused by affirmative action programs, busing, integration of public facilities, etc. is nothing compared to what has been traditionally done to blacks by whites in this country, not to mention in addition what whites have done to whites they deemed "n***** lovers". i.e., whites who fully recognized the common humanity of all races.

Blacks of Wright's age and even younger remember the bombing of a black church in Birmingham, Al killed four little black girls, the murder and burial in a dirt dam of three total peaceful young men who has the audacity to hope to register black people to vote in Mississippi, etc., etc., etc.

Maybe Wright should have gotten over all that by now. Apparently he has not. So sue him for not being forgiving.

As to the paranoia of the government creating AIDS to kill off blacks - to a white person such as myself this does sound ridiculous. But since it has been established as fact now that the U.S. government at one time or another 1. used black men in an experiment to study the ravages of (untreated) syphilis 2. gave small pox infected blankets to Indians to help kill them off and 3. even once gave LSD to, uh, white people, to study its effects - well, who can say what our government isn't capable of.

As to the comment that white racism caused the 9/11 attacks in a chicken-coming-home-to-roast type of thing, well, Pat Robertson and the late Jerry Falwell, and who knows how many other fanatical bigots of their stripe, are on record as saying it was America's fault too - but not because of racism but because of tolerance of gays, feminists, the ACLU, and liberals in general.

Which idea is the craziest? I don't know. I just remember there wasn't this kind of horror expressed by the many white people who have such a problem with Wright's comments.

Perhaps Wright is right in a way. Perhaps there is some real racism still around, and it needs to be exposed to the light of day and seen for what it is.

Does anyone else find it strange Wright has been preaching for 36 years yet this is the first national stage regarding his content? Must just be a coincidence a black man is threatening to break through the glass ceiling of our white male power structure. Peeps like Wright are disliked for busting the rainbow morning dew sweet fantasy racism is no longer an issue. Calling him a racist reinforces the idea racism isnt *really* an issue.

I can attest to the benefits of white skin privilege because it has gotten me jobs, apartments, access to places normally off limits to the 'public,' kept me out of jail more than once, and allowed me to be drunk or high while at work or other places because other white peeps never suspected a campbells soup looking kid would do those 'ethnic' things.

No it doesn't say much. There are only 3 candidates now and a LOT of crazy people in America. Pick any candidate and you'll find plenty of crazy, undesirable people supporting them.

I think Joy Juice's question remains unanswered.

That the USA could elect someone who is hate-filled and hates our country and is a racist, is a legitimate and serious concern. But that's only half of what it takes to be a risk. Risks must be both (1.) serious (this one is) and (2.) have a high level of probability. Has Obama expressed similar positions of his own? Has he opposed or advocated legislation that favors one race over another? Has he expressed, publicly or privately, a hatred of the US?

We see more and more tapes and photos of Rev. Wright, including one of him chatting with Bill Clinton in the White House, but I have not seen reporters or their producers coming forward with quotes or inklings in letters that Obama shares any beliefs on these subjects with this man. You've got to believe that there are plenty of interns straining their eyes reading everything they can get their hands on and looking at every frame of film looking for the smoking photo...

The question stands.

You asked how much do you think Wrights views influenced him to the point it is a political concern? Seeing as how even Obama
himself claimed Wright had great influence over him, I've provided you with ample eveidence-unless you think Obama was lying/wrong?

Messenger? I think you mean 'mentor'. You say 'throw him under the bus' like it's akin to stabbing him in the back, but the question remains-
why Obama continued to work with him and appoint him? He seemed to have no problem criticizing his grandmother, who raised him for a time.

Considering Obama called for the resignation of Trent Lott for ONE comment at a birthday, party, I think holding himself to his own standard isn't too much to ask.

As opposed to Wright who places his faith above his politics, right? Sorry, JoyJuice. 3 out of 4 people who heard those comments found them divisive. I don't think they're all conservative. Obama's poll numbers dropped after the Wright scandal hit. Were all of them conservatives, too?

You wanted evidence that Wright influneced Obama, and I provided it.If you want to keep moving the goalposts for proof of Wright's influence on Obama,
feel free...but if you think I'm going to review his entire career looking for legislation footnoted 'Inspired by my Spiritual Mentor, Jeremiah Wright', you're mistaken.
As for me, Obama claiming Wright had a great influence in him is enough for me to believe that Wright had a great influence in him.
