  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Expiration if the Reinsurance Program and why it was for three years is beyond me. Politics?

Insurer's undercharged initially then had to raise prices, so they say.

That question was for the benefit of the poster, tho they've never listened in the past.

Marco Rubio helped get rid of the risk corridors. They knew initially insurance companies would take a hit because a lot of sick people who couldn't afford care would be rushing to get it. Also for costs harder to anticipate. They figured with a few cycles of everyone being insured, there would be fewer emergency and late stage illnesses because theoretically people could be seen regularly and with preventive care and early screening catch diseases while they were treatable and less expensive to do so. So they set up risk corridors to temporarily reimburse at higher rates. When that was pulled, many insurers increased prices or pulled out altogether. If the GOP had spent half as much time trying to improve the ACA as they have trying to sabotage it, it would be a much better program.

This program ended Dec 31, 2016 This was meant to be temporary but I think Obama miscalculated the transition time.

Here it is, January. This, I gather, was a procedural vote before the real vote.

9 Republicans vote with Democrats to set up House vote on 3-year extension of ACA subsidies

The measure passed by a 221-205 vote.
And now the real vote. (In the House)

17 Republicans vote to restore lapsed Obamacare subsidies

Seventeen Republicans joined Democrats in passing legislation Thursday that would revive enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies for three years, rebuffing opposition from GOP leadership.

The 230-196 vote follows a procedural vote Wednesday to advance the bill, where nine Republicans joined Democrats in favor of moving forward.

While the measure is destined to die in the Senate, Democrats and some Republicans hope it will lay the groundwork for a bipartisan agreement to tame skyrocketing health insurance premiums — the result of Congress allowing the tax credits to lapse Dec. 31.
