You know about Oaths, which is talked about in Matt.5:33-37, James 5:12, Do you see that The Son of God Jesus Christ says not to do oaths any more, but to say, I will do this, or say this, or no I will not do this or say this. Anything more then yes, yes, or no, no Jesus Christ said is of the evil one. Do you see that that is The Word of God.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes. I even heard on on TV (Or was it radio? Could've even read it somewhere) that some Christians are trying to get the swearing of a person before taking the stand in court abolished. I agree with this; it should be abolished.

At that time, it was customary for people to swear on their life or someone else's life or a posession. God tells us that as Christians, our word is enough. If we say yes, that is enough. If we say we will do it, that is enough. We are not to say, I swear upon this table that I will do it. That is what this Scripture is talking about and addressing. We still do this today. The phrases "I swear on my mother's life", or "I swear on my father's grave" are improper for Christians to do. To promise, or to tell someone you will do something is enough. All oaths that we take in the US have the otpion of saying affirm instead of swear, which while appearing to be semantical, fits within the letter of the Word of God. But, using the word swear does not break the letter of God's Word either as long as we only swear on our own word. If we swear on something specific, then we are swearing on something we have no control over. We DO have control over our own word (character or our word is really the only ting we can have any control over). In marriage vows, I have rarely heard the word swear. It is merely a statement of intent, and it is to be upheld. In wedding vows, it is not customary to swear upon a life or possession. There is nothing unScriptural in traditional wedding vows nor in most original wedding vows.
