I've never understood it, to be honest.

I guess if one has no desire for a mate, sex, marriage, etc. it makes sense. But otherwise, it seems to go against 1 Tim. 4:3.

I go by the Hebrew scriptures which talk about being fruitful and multiplying over most things the modern church purports or teaches. Man was created a sexual being, by God. To deny that is to deny creation itself, which was also designed by God Himself.
