Nvidia 6600. What's > and <

My video card has developed an extremely annoying buzz from the cooling fan and I can't find any way to deal with it short of removing it and that won't work. I've decided with income tax coming soon I might just try to get a new video card but I want to trade up some since it will be the last time I get a new VC for some time.

What would be my best choice to up performance from a Geforce 6600, 256MB, PCI-E? I don't have a preference between Nvidia or ATI so whichever has the best card in the $150-$250 range will be fine. Thanks.

Well first off, the buzzing is easily fixable, Either use mineral oil, like sewing machine oil, or all in one oil will work, and lubricate the fan (google on how to).

Or replace the colling witha a $30 aftermarket cooler on newegg.com.

Yeah, probably just needs some lube. My motherboard's northbridge fan requires oil every month or so because I can't be bothered to buy a replacement.

Thanks, I will probably just get a replacement cooler at some point. I fiddled with it a little and got it quited down. It looks like the fan is very flexible and gets into a position where it will touch part of the heatsink so I pressed it away from it.

If you get a new one, I recommend a GeForce 7900GS (256 and 512 MB versions are available). It's cheap, and gives you a lot of power for your money.

It's often rated as the best card in it's class.

I upgrated from a 5600 card, and the difference was very noticable. I'm happy with it. Oblivion runs at full settings and can keep a decent frame rate.
