good sound bite!

IMO,

Musk believes that government should do much, much less

...except launch a bunch of people into space, on rockets he supplies, right?

and safety net programs should be seriously cut.

Musk believes that there should be a major tax increase on the rich and that the previous tax cuts should be continued.

Musk believes that the federal debt is a threat to his businesses and to the world economy.

Musk believes that tariffs are terrible and a threat to his business and to the world economy.

Musk believes that Trump has no understanding of the effect of tariffs on the world economy.
I don't know enough about Musk's particular ideology to know whether or not these statements are true. Assuming they are, his full-throated backing of Trump was even dumber than I previously thought, because almost none of this lines up with what any of us knew about Trump's position on those issues.

Cutting safety nets - it's certainly a goal of a big chunk of the Republican party, but AFAIK, Trump has been pretty ambivalent about it, and even reluctant to tackle it in some cases.

Taxes - that's the only one where he's in the same ballpark as Trump.

Debt - Trump's done nothing but make the deficit worse, and the plans he's been pitching for round 2 would only go farther.

Tariffs - Trump has been pushing tariffs for decades in a manner that's demonstrated his cluelessness for all of us to see. Did Musk drop $300 million backing a guy whose policies he didn't understand?

Musk spent $300M to prevent the election of a Democratic administration who was very committed to continuing to extending the safety net and to spending more on federal programs.

Trump has only three "policies": to make himself rich, powerful and to punish those who oppose him and have opposed him in the past. And yes, he wants countries and business leaders to come to the White House and beg for favors and help.

His tariff "policy" is whatever he thinks it is at the moment. his TACO tariffs more often sound like Sanders (steel and aluminum) than other Republicans (against China and Russia). Across the board tariffs are Navarro's silly idea. But, yes, Trump believes in using tariffs as a tool to get what he wants from other countries.

You mean Musk told the truth about Trump. And now Trumps supporters are mad about it. Musk only said what everyone, but Trump supporters all ready know.

How can you be sure Musk was truthful about President Trump? Last year, he made statements about Clinton, Biden, Harris, and other DNC members. Do you believe those? He also claimed that some federal employees only collected checks without working. Did you trust him on that?

Musk said a bunch of things that many people already knew. Things that he hadn't said before. Thus, he told some truths about Trump. That doesn't make all of his statements true or all of his prior statements false. In the same manner, Trump and his allies also said some true things about Musk, and we know they lie as easily as breathe.

It is increasingly observed that individuals in the United States perceive truth through the lens of political ideology. When Elon Musk criticizes political figures or communities, such as President Biden, Vice President Harris, or the LGBT community, liberal Americans often find him untrustworthy, while conservatives view him as someone who speaks his mind and acts accordingly.

However, now that Musk is criticizing President Trump, liberal Americans consider him truthful while conservatives view him as untrustworthy. Similarly, with Karine Jean-Pierre, when she served as Press Secretary, many conservative media outlets would not allocate time for her press conferences, labeling her a liar. Surprisingly, these same media outlets are now praising her as one of the most trusted individuals who have left the DNC.

There’s nothing surprising about that.

I don't know who those "liberals" are. Saying a few true things does not make one "truthful". In the case of Musk, he knew those things or thought them to be true *before* he had his falling out, but he said nothing. Perhaps he did before he became an out Trump supporter last year, and now that he and Trump have kissed and made up, I don't expect him to say them again for a while.

NO ONE thinks that Musk was telling the truth in all that he said in the name of DOGE.

Yes, now he has stated his very strong opinions regarding tariffs and the big, beautiful bill.

I agree with his opinions, as do almost all economists. That doesn't mean that I or anyone else believes his dozens of misrepresentations regarding so many things.

Trump truly believes that the best idea is for him to set prices and that tariffs help the economy as a whole.
It's always been my opinion "Musk" is for "Musk" what could he get out of a Trump presidency

Biden must have done favorably with the Biden Admin, I live in So. Cal. and there are "Thousands" of Tesla charging stations going up everywhere presently

Musk isn’t telling “the truth.” He’s saying whatever suits him at the moment. Sometimes, that comports with reality; often, it doesn’t.
I agree, I don’t trust him at all. Never have.

Copy that, Elon Musk is for Elon Musk

He was hoping There was going to be EV funding in the big bill and there wasn't

He was hoping for a blank check from President Trump and congress regarding space x and EV subsidies and it didn't happen

I won't deny the fact that Musk purchasing Twitter and his campaign funding for President Trump helped the GOP take the white house

Elon Musk says he regrets some posts about Donald Trump

11 June 2025
Billionaire Elon Musk has said he regrets some of the posts he made about US President Donald Trump during their war of words on social media.
"They went too far," he wrote on his social media platform X.
The two were embroiled in a public fallout after the Tesla owner stepped back from his White House role and called Trump's tax bill a "disgusting abomination".
His post comes after Trump said he was open to the possibility of reconciliation in an interview with the New York Post on Wednesday. The president said he was a "little disappointed" about the fallout, but there were "no hard feelings".
