It appears that Trump is working to consolidate information in the intelligence communities for more efficient cross department communication. Better to have all the departments sharing information with each other rather than they all working individually. There is no evidence to suggest anything other than making existing information easier to access and share among intelligence and law enforcement. If Trump wanted everyone's information, he just needs to call Google or Meta. They already have it.

Troubling to me. Specially given who is conducting the gathering. As the article notes:
The goal of uniting data on Americans has been quietly discussed by Palantir engineers, employees said, adding that they were worried about collecting so much sensitive information in one place. The company’s security practices are only as good as the people using them, they said. They characterized some DOGE employees as sloppy on security, such as not following protocols in how personal devices were used.
I'm sure not only with this admin, but certainly specially this admin, security of info doesn't seem to be paramount.

Once upon a time, conservatives would have been dead set against this kind of thing. Can't you imagine, say, poor old William Buckley rolling over in his grave?

This presupposes that one can trust Donald Trump. A man who has been proven guilty of fraud on multiple occasions, and continues to deny any responsibility for his actions.

His refusal to accept responsibility tells us a lot about his relationship with his father.
Also how much he's governed by his ego rather than any sense of morality or responsibility to others.

-- A2SG, which would seem an important thing to have, if you're going to be a public servant like the president....

Welcome to the Surveillance State of America.

Where have you been?
Edward Snowden blew the cover on the kind of surveillance that goes on in the USA back in the Obama days.

While I can see this a bothering for some people we must remind ourselves of the general incompetence of recent America Administrations. The real danger is when the corporate world starts using it for nothing more pedestrian than making unfeasibly large amounts of money.

...you are okay with the United States GOVERNMENT buidling a personal profile on you and sharing it across government agencies with no oversight?

Creating detailed portraits of Americans based on government data is not just a pipe dream. The Trump administration has already sought access to hundreds of data points on citizens and others through government databases, including their bank account numbers, the amount of their student debt, their medical claims and any disability status.

This has been going on since at least the 1950s.

No, it has not. Government agencies have not been sharing personal data such as your health, financial, etc.

Now if you had involvement with a foreign hostile government or terrorist organization, that's a different story. But that isn't what this program is about....

"The Trump administration is now trying to connect the dots of that disparate information. Last month, President Trump signed an executive order calling for the “consolidation” of these segregated records, raising the prospect of creating a kind of data trove about Americans that the government has never had before, and that members of the president’s own party have historically opposed."
