  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Rather than mistrust every tourist or visitor, why not force all visitors to put up bond money so they are not harassed and can be given a green light? Send bounty hunters after them if they overstay. It would make the hole process of getting visa far easier than trying to wade through applicants to predict which ones will overstay their visit.

Youre sailing that fat gray sea that exists around here between seriously and silly.

Yes, if I'm a foreigner I doubt I'd show up for the World Cup, when there are stories like this being run internationally. And I used a DW article intentionally, as DW is a German News agency, so this article is likely similar to ones being broadcast within Germany, about people with the proper visas and documentation that are, for weak reasons locked into prisons for weeks, just because they tried to enter the US legally.

I suspect we'll see far better attendance for games in Canada and Mexico, with many boycotting, or not wanting to risk, travel to the US.

Why not just keep track of them? That's supposed to be one of ICE's duties, but they have always booted it.

There are too many people to keep track of with the current resources. One nation I visit has far less people and fewer to track yet they have at least thirty immigration offices nationwide. They are careful too that no foreigner is allowed to leave the country until their paperwork is checked and cleared. So any overstay of a visa is a stiff penalty and likely a refusal of entry in the future. If a person was smuggled in then they would have to be smuggled out or they face charges and fines.
