Um. I have a manga called Retake (DO NOT GOOGLE IT). Technically it is hentia, but due to the fact it only has/had two such scenes in a otherwise normal manga book, I found an editted (or moreso was given one). It is a continuation of the NGE storyline (by fans, so no copy right issues to deal with). So, I have a de-hentiazized henti manga, which is (unless you have seen the original), impossible to tell it is based on hentia, unless you count the cover page saying 18+. But as I said, it has nothing bad, and minus about 15 (I think) out of 350 pages, you have a normal manga. But as I said, don't google it. Would you say that this is wrong?

I wouldn't. Now, if it had that stuff in it, I would. But then, hentia and normal nudity are two different things. I would mostlikely not have one which had it myself.

Edited as in how, the pages/panels removed or blocked out, or censored with a mosaic?

If it was the mosaic, I'm surprised that's still floating around. Unless more than one person did a mosaic-censored version, I'm actually the one responsible for that.

what is mosaic- censored?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixelization

It's a particular way of pixelizing an image to obscure what's there. Often seen on the news and such.

What I did to Retake was a mixture - sometimes it was the entire panel that I censored out (and then re-overlayed any text bubbles so that the dialogue wasn't missing), sometimes it was closer to what that article lists as being the Japanese law standard. Admittedly, some of the stuff probably wasn't censored as well as it could have been, but I think that was only in a couple of cases. In general what I attempted to do was take something I considered to be equivalent of an NC-17 rating and bring it down to an R (even if it would be a rather high R rating).

Wait what? Japanese hentai is already automatically censored. It is required by law there. So it wasn't necesarily "de-hentaized." That may be it's actual original form which makes you a minor in possession of pornography and whoever made it accessible to you could be in big trouble.

Also, there's a reason why tentacle rape has been so popular (it's not technically a penis, so it slides under the law)

And even fan stuff is under copyright. Everything is actually under copyright from the moment it's created. And even if they did not violate copyright, they most probably violated trademark. The difference is that companies aren't usually interested in pursuing fan-created stuff unless you're someone like George Lucas or Disney.

There's not any censoring in Retake, that's for sure (and as it doesn't have an official English release it's kind of hard to say it was taken away because of localization like some H-Games are when released in America - the only English version is a fan scanlation). I'm not sure if doujin is commonly treated the same way under law concerning hentai or not, but the thing's definitely not censored.

And as far as Retake is concerned, there's only one sequence which could be construed as close to tentacle rape - all the other explicit scenes (when they appear, which steadily decreases from about 9 pages in Vol. 1 to none at all in Vol. 4 - not that nothing happens in 4, but there's nothing that needed to absolutely be blocked out) are completely human.

My belief on this subject is that you have to use discernment to make your desicion. Look at the whole situation and ask yourself why is the person missing clothes or naked. This will help immensly because the Japanese culture is completely different that ours.
Take Elfen Lied. Lucy is a violent by nature. She walks around slowly and people just die- she is naked. Lucy does not care... she just keeps on walking while shots are fired but they do nothing. Not long after this, Lucy is depicted as childlike and runs around the house in various states of nudity (she is known as Nyuu). Nyuu is childlike and does not know simple things like how to dress. Later, a depiction of her, she is chained to a wall, naked.

In Japan, for the most part nudity represents a pure and innocent form. To this extent, I like it if it's in art form. Like the Sailor Moon manga where they show Sailor Moon with angel wings, and there's sunlight covering her up. Very awesome looking.

Even though there already were lots of good points made by people I do not think its any big deal to see fictional people naked. Likewise I've read books (all text) where people were naked but is that actually nudity, or should I avoid it? Doubt it. And in most cases of manga or anime that I've seen the little details, you know, are not even there. That initially crept me a bit out when I saw a human form drawn like that but now if I see that its neutral to me.

I think the japanese are a little more openminded about all that stuff then we are over here.Personally I dont really mind it myself.I find it helps me how to draw better to know what the human body really looks like. Although I still blush occassionaly ^^;; I guess it really depends on the person and who's reading what. I also have good controll over lust most of the time sooo, what the heck. Not to mention it's not exactly the right proportion when they draw stuff.XD;*I think I just contradicted myself* But anyways, yeah.
