  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) posted a press release on August 27, 2012 that a new record for the Arctic lowest sea ice extent has been broken a month before the lowest extent is usually achieved. In otherwords, it is still decreasing.

The problem is the water does not just melt and go into the ocean. It usually ends up in a storm system somewhere because it needs cleansed. Also there are storm surges and in some area high tide will be higher.

"Cleansed"?? What are you talking about, of course melt water goes into the ocean.

Arctic sea ice is already in the ocean, the Arctic Ocean.

It usually ends up in a storm system somewhere because it needs cleansed.
The entire atmospheric moisture system in the troposphere turns over completely every 5- 7 days. Cleansed, what in the world are you talking about?

Also there are storm surges and in some area high tide will be higher.
You seem to have missed the subject of this thread altogether. You are talking about weather. The thread is concerned with climate, not weather.

As the old saying goes: Records were made to be broken.

Maybe next year it will set a record for having the highest sea ice extent, eh?

It is far more likely that next will break this year's record for lowest ice. The picture shows this year's current level compared to the average minimum of the last 30 years.

This graph shows the extent of the Greenland Ice Sheet compared to the 2002-2011 average. I think you can see the trend

Oh, well ... I don't shop there, anyway.
the point is that not only is the extent of ice less, the ice is getting progressively thinner making it easier to melt. As more ice melts less sunlight is reflected back into space heating the oceans even more.

At least the melting of the sea ice doesn't raise sea level unlike the melting of the Greenland and Antarctic Ice sheets.
