Oh well, there's goes 90% of the fun thread participation... with splits every 1000, you can miss a few days and then have no idea where the threads went and no way of knowing a new thread has new posts.

You won't miss anything. Chrisbot neatly inserts a link to the new thread.

Well, I think it is a cool idea. I just have a question, out of pure curiosity: Why? I mean, it's nice and all, but the Recreation and RPG forums are going to be popping out a new thread a day :) . I just think that would be a little more taxing on the database, wouldn't it?

You may want to keep the posts of the old threads as they may contain good information.

Erwin,

The hardest thing with this idea, is that if I want to track down a post I wrote 6 months ago, because I forgot to keep a copy of the original and do not have the book I used as a reference on hand (notable in threads regarding to history and papal succession) I cannot do it using a search, so i have to manually page back until I can find the thread, assuming I can remember the exact name of the thread and the approximate date of the last post.

Alot of the early 'pages' in OBOB are actually empty, with just a page no.

As an aside, the record for posts in Reilly's Pub was, I believe, 1000 posts in 24 hours, so I wonder how many pubs we can go through in one day if we really try? ;)

CF = MUCH MUCH FASTER NOW! Thanks as always for your hard work to keep CF up and running Erwin!

One small question though, would it be a lot of work to have subscriptions update along with the new thread? It seems that is what most of the concerns have been about the 1000 post break (eg. if you can't post for a couple days all your rec forum subscriptions will be out of date). If this would slow CF down though, I personally don't mind going through and manually updating :). Thanks Again!

Hey Erwin, I was accessing some older (1000+ post) Threads today and I was wondering.. since CF is much faster with threads limited to 1000 replys.. would it be possible to split older threads with more than 1000 posts as well? It seems to work very well for the newer threads but loading some of the older threads that still have over a thousand replies seems to still take a while.. just an idea to maybe speed up the CF we have all come to know and love!

Loading these old threads do slow down CF - you're right.

I'm in the process of deleting them when I find time.

It's not possible to split them now - it would kill the database to do the split. :) So I just have to get rid of these old threads. Doing the split as it happens is fine, but once a thread is a few thousand replies long it's too hard to split.

Is there a way we could rename the threads once the old is closed and the new is made. "Fellowship Thread (2)" is kinda boring. Then again, Im a simple man and can deal with it.

good gravy... its 3am again... I need to stop doing this... :sorry::sleep:
