Hi there,

The subject is "watching".

The claim is: nothing short of profound, will cause an internettie (internet user) to watch (their words).

Discuss.

Possible avenues of discussion:

  • Is watching your words anything to do with the internet?
  • Can't you watch more than words?
  • Am I using the internet because I don't care?

Thanks.

Profound what?

What do you mean by "watching your words"?

In regards to the rest of your post.... what?

You're welcome.

A statement, can be a profound statement (or not - let the reader take note carefully).

There are three things to watch: the number (of words), the weight (of meaning given to the words) and the qualification (of the balance of the words measured against themselves if possible).

By watching these three things, you create poise.

(Words with poise are the most powerful use of words that you can focus on)

I happen to find this topic interesting.

I try to take careful note of how posters use their words, I think it can tell you a lot about their thought process and the reactions they are going for. In discussion forums like this, it's often agreement or at least acknowledgement that posters are striving for... not always, but often.

I personally favor making the strongest point I can in the fewest words possible. I like to think it forces consideration of that point in the reply of whomever I'm speaking to. Obviously it's successful if they acknowledge the point...but just as often I feel vindicated if they avoid replying at all. It makes that point even stronger if they cannot dispute it.

I tend to see weakness in overly long, repetitive, or posts with unnecessarily complex jargon. These types of posts and posters need smoke and mirrors to prop up weak positions.

Posts that immediately resort to insults... either overt or implied.... are also generally weak. However, I don't feel that one necessarily needs to avoid eliciting an emotional response altogether... as I think it's possible to evoke serious thought and an emotional consideration at the same time. If you can do both those things at once while keeping your post short... you've gotten my attention every time.
