I am an avid writer and write notes all over the outline we are given in the bulletin that goes along with the sermon. Without the writing aspect of it, I tend to lose the information very quickly so I personally think it is a good idea.
Then you can go back later on and have your additional notes to refer to if you need clarification on a point or thought the pastor speaks on.
I write additional scripture he added as he went through that was not in the outline, things he said that make sense and help bring things in focus.
I am a hands-on type of person so I retain things better if I write them out. If that is how you are I highly suggest writing notes.
